$700 for a TripleXXX : Is it worth it?

Decent enough price, though I can't say the amp appeals to me all that much, so personally I'd say not worth it...

Exactly... the XXX is a cool amp, but it's like it tries to fill a void that doesn't quite exist. I'd rather have a 5150, a Recto, or a Krank, and blending any of those would sound better than the XXX IMO.

If you're looking for a more processed/refined 5150 (which is what the XXX tries to do IMO), you should take a look at the JSX, instead.

This I agree with

This I do not

I like my XXX's voicing over my 5150 through my 5150 cab. I picked it up for $450 and it is way more versatile than the 5150 especially if you like having a clean channel although the JSX is probably a better amp if you can find it at a good price.

I dunno dude, I find both to sound somewhat metallic, though a) I feel the JSX is worse, and b) nwright on here has posted a particular clip he made with his XXX that sounds better than ANYTHING I've ever heard the JSX do! (hopefully he'll chime in and post it, I think he knows which one I'm talking about :D)

I got my XXX dead mint IN a road case for 630 shipped on ebay.

I like the "5150" tone, but the XXX has been hitting the spot more so than the 6505+ these days. i run both in stereo live, though.

My usual XXX tone clip...I've yet to get a tone I like as much out of my 6505+. Heck, I haven't been able to reproduce this miked tone since the day I recorded this song. :(

EDIT

Just saw your post Metaltastic! ;)

I think for the right price used the XXX is a killer "jack of all trades" metal amp. I find the Crunch channel to have the "peavey mids", fizzy highs and grind reminiscent of a 5150, while the ultra channel seems to up the gain, the low mid punch and girth all the while being a bit drier in it's saturation. The 3 way dampening switch is a nice touch, although setting it to loose sounds the best pretty much in every situation (and even on loose it's still tight enough, comparable to a 5150). I prefer the XXX with EL34's, as it adds a grittiness to the high end I like over the smoother 5150 high end (relatively speaking). I think the XXX's high end is a little more gritty than a 5150 in general, though.

here's the XXX with EL34's blended straight 50/50 with my 6505+.
