You know, stuff like Uriah Heep, early Queen and some BÖC stuff. It doesn't necessarily have to be all about wizards, trolls and goblins but just generally epic music with equally epic lyrical content. I'm not looking for full-blown prog rock, although some prog elements are probably inevitable... and it doesn't really matter as long as it's just all about the songs instead of technical showboating.
And it doesn't necessarily have to be from the 70s, any decade will do as long as it has that "feel"... :)

Old Riot!! With Guy Speranza. Fantastic!!! :headbang:

Rock City [1977]
Narita [1978]
Fire Down Under [1981]
Riot Live [1982]

Dust - Hard Attack [1972] great 70s hard rock

Montrose - Montrose [1973]

Nazareth - Razamanaz [1973]

Moxy - Moxy [1975] Great Canadian Hard Rock band

Styx - Pieces of Eight [1987]

Triumph - Just a Game [1979] My favorite Triumph album

Diamond Head - Borrowed Time [1982] really a great album can't wait to see them at KIT!!

Thats all I can think of now. There must be more, there always is :)

Bodkin - Bodkin 1971
Blues Creation - Demon & eleven Children 1971
Jenghiz Kahn - Well Cut 1971
Black Widow - Tears & Wine 1974
Coven - Witchcraft 1969

Some obvious choices:

Thin Lizzy - "Jailbreak"
Riot - "Fire Down Under"
Rush - "2112"
Uriah Heep - "Demons & Wizards"
Nazareth - "No Mean City"
Rainbow - "Rising"
Black Sabbath - 'Sabbath Bloddy Sabbath"
Blue Oyster Cult - "Fire Of Unknown Origen"

also recommended:

Black Knight - "Master Of Disaster"
Saxon - "Power & The Glory"
Hawk - "Hawk"
Manilla Road - "Crystal Logic"
Warlord - "And The Cannons Of Destrction Has Begun"
Heavy Load - "Death Or Glory"
Pretty Maids - "Red, Hot And Heavy"
Sortilege - "Larmes De Héros"
Rata Blanca - "Magos, Espadas y Rosas"

Saxon, Riot, Thin Lizzy etc., all fine bands but not exactly what I was after. I know at least Manilla Road and of course Rainbow fit the criteria perfectly actually, not overly progressive yet epic and adventurous. I'll do my best to find out about the other bands too.

Maybe even some stuff along the lines of Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds? Pretentious, maybe even silly by someones standards but great music anyway.

Keep 'em coming anyway, it's all highly appreciated.

would Argent fall into this catagory...I say this only because of the keyboards sounds but then again I don't think they are fantasy styled. I need to pull out some 'Brain Salad Surgery" been too damn long!! Also where does Steely Dan fall into a catagory? AOR or what? Thanks my metal friends!!

Hughes, Gary Once And Future King - Part I
Hughes, Gary Once And Future King – Part II
Gary Hughes from Ten? Great voice! I'll hunt these down.

Isn't that an ELP album? Not a big fan of ELP personally although their skills are undeniable.

Magnum sound pretty cool too. I thought the singer sounded very familiar after hearing a few songs and what do you know; he had a part in the Avantasia albums.

Yeah, I tossed that sentence in there. A bit misplaced but the thought just popped into the ole' noggin'. I had a Psych teacher that would have us clear our minds by listening to ELP! :headbang:

Manilla Road are GODS!!!! If you´re finding Manilla road epic style check Cirith Ungol ("Frost and fire" "king of the dead" "One foot in hell" or "Paradise lost" all of them masterpiece). Not easy listening music and voice but besides Manilla Road the best epic underground metal band ever.

If you´re into doom metal there are tons of epic bands. I´d recommend you Candlemass ("Epicus Doomicus Metallicus" and "Nightfall"), Solstice ("New dark age" and "Lamentations") or Doomsword ("Resound the horn" and "Doomsword"). Epic metal at its best!!

Solstice ("New dark age" and "Lamentations")

Solstice is indeed one of the finest true doom metal bands ever. Slow, melancholic, epic, powerful, not a pinch of stoner vibe. :headbang:
