Anyway, the one complaint I have with HoM is that there ain't enought crazy soloing!
Get da faak outta here! You want crazy soloing? OK, expect some Yngwie in your next shipment. That'll teach ya... :p

Let's see what NAD notices when they play their hometown. I do remember Scalzi being a bit nuts on the guitar, but that was just the way he played anything. Even if it was a regular old open chord riff, he looked like he was trying to shag his Gibson. :loco:

What did you think of Jamie Myers on bass? Pretty cool, huh? :heh:

Trip up took about 6-1/2 hours.
Haight Ashbury is more entertaining to walk than to drive through. "Green buds..."
Gay black guy offered to suck me and my buddy off, we declined without consideration.
First band reminded me of Sulaco and Ion Dissonance, good shit.
Second band sucked ass until they did twin guitar solos, all of which ruled.
Hammers kicked ass, new bassist is hot and is a great replacement.
Club was loud as fuck and my ears are still ringing pretty bad.
Trip back took 10 hours, fuck Los Angeles traffic.

That sucks man, they were great. They joked around a bit too, saying stuff like "be glad you guys don't live where it's 120 degrees right now..." I was thinking "uhhh, I was there this morning." :tickled:

They played the entire first act of The Bastard, it RULED. :kickass:

New stuff was pretty good! I'd like to hear it a few times before fully judging it, but it's a bit more accessible than their other stuff. They played 3 new songs, two of which kinda led into each other.

Surprisingly, I was most impressed with Scalzi's guitar playing over everything else. One of the most natural players I've ever seen, it's like everything he did was like breathing to lesser mortals such as myself.

Yeah I really don't remember the songs as such, but I do remember thinking that they felt like a natural progression from The August Engine.

For sure. He's Mr Slough Feg after all.

What was their sound like? Could you hear all the vocal harmonies between Scalzi and Myers? That always helps considering it's one of their big trademarks...

They were FUCKING LOUD. The tone was actually a bit too much, it was kinda like listening to a stereo at 11, yeah it knocks your face off, but you lose a bit of the subtleties. All vocals were clearly audible after a few typical mic problems, and Scalzi and Myers voices complement one another perfectly.

Nah, my buddy was falling asleep* and they were surrounded by friends the moment they left the stage (hometown and all), so we just took off when they were done.

*long fucking day, he dug them almost as much as I did

Venue size was miniscule, it was a very kickass bar that held probably 250 people at best. Posters of Kyuss and Queens of the Stone Age as previous acts gave it bonus points. A few people in the crowd threw some roses at Scalzi during one of the first songs, haha.

I would've liked to have met them, but I was pretty exhausted myself so maybe next time. I would've just embarassed myself by drooling all over Jamie Myers babbling something about Royal Nutsack anyhow.
