90's alt/metal acts

I don't mean to ruin this thread by rambling but I it got me thinking of those early 90's metal years :) "Meantime" was released in 92 (I think) and "Manic Impression" in 93 or 94, right? I was only in my very early teens back then but I tried to remember what albums I was really into during that period. Off the top of my head...

At the Gates - The Red in the Sky is Ours
Blind Guardian - Somewhere Far Beyond
Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky
Deicide - Legion
Kreator - Renewal
Paradise Lost - Icon
Iced Earth - Night of the Stormrider
Megadeth - Countdown
Rage - Trapped!/Missing Link
Sentenced - North from Here
Wasp - Crimson Idol
Annihilator - Set the World on Fire
Accept - Objection Overruled
Death - Individual Thought Patterns
Believer - Dimensions
Satyricon - Dark Medieval Times
Entombed - Wolverine Blues
Carcass - Heartwork

Those albums ARE 92/93 for me. I mean, metal was in better shape than ever back then! Damn how I miss those glorious teenage years haha :D

I listened to all that stuff as well, but with a college radio show based on metal and hardcore from 1990-1994 i tried to play all kinds of stuff. :) I also wrote a music column for a local music publication that was called "Thrash On A Thumbnail" and it was little blurbs about 4-5 new thrash releases a month. haha.

I am not letting this thread die out. Here is another fave of mine. Louisville, KY's KINGHORSE! I love this album. "you're not man enough to open this cage"

VIRGOS MERLOT - One album on a major and then done (however i just saw they reunited in 2009). How ALICE IN CHAINS didn't snatch this singer up is beyond me. Dead ringer for Layne. This album is great. Spun it twice in row working in the cave the other day.

In 193 I was a dj at Elon College but I must admit that I did not find many new bands coming in through there, seems there was nothing coming in but The Julliana Hatfield Three, and a LOT of promos of them too. But I was more interested in all the metal they weren't playing like the Artillery, Voivod, and Poltergeist CDs that were in the sound-booth corner piled into a mail bin. I have no idea where that stuff they never played would eventually end up;)
Now a couple of years before that a girl I knew who djed there got in this EP by a band called Tool, maybe you've heard of them. She played it a few times but it seemed to only snag a few people around. Would have never guessed then that they would have become as big as they did. But this was the same when I discovered GnR, or would see Marlyn Manson opening for Buzzov'en.
But those days at the station, hanging out or djing helped to expand my taste past metal; I discovered the Swans then which was probably the best find at the time.

I don't know much about this scene except main acts such as Prong, Faith No More, Soundgarden, MindFunk... but there's one band I'd like to recommend: here comes Gruntruck.

not much "metal" in this but this is one of my favorite albums from the 90s. I hope that if one of my buddies ever come across the second album they would hook me up. Note; I was referring to CD hunter Justin there;)

Gruntruck's 'Push' album is cool. Must give that a spin again.
After finding it in the loft, I listened to Paw's 'Dragline' album the other day. Was even better than I remembered. I never did hear their second album though.
Anyone remember T-Ride? That's not a bad album. Kind of a mix between FNM, Queen and 90s pop.
