if you gentlemen (and possibly ladies?) want to give my band a listen, that would be most appriciated. Were a rock band (indie? some alternative country in there) from chi-town. All the material was recorded in my basement using (mostly) shitty gear. Let me know what you think and send me a friend request.

alternative country = western?


I listened to the songs and I think that the production fits the music, eventho the vocals could be a bit more in your face, but the songs were a bit dull. Nothing against the music, but I just got bored (twice!) when listening to the first song already. The opening riff was helluva nice on the last song "the one about winter", but guitartone could've gotten just a bit grittier and explode when rest of the band hits in. But as it didn't, so I just was a bit dissapointed. Again. I'm not talking about heavy kind of grit, but even just a bit more overdrive from a pedal or something could've given it a nice contrast, now it just gets a bit louder, nothing else. But I still really like the opening riff, you could make something really nice out of it (but the acoustic guitar is a turn off for me, I can hear a nice and sharp piano thing in my mind that might've worked a bit better).

I give it a 6/10. Not bad, but I've heard better. Needs a lot more lyrics, edge and some nice hooks.

I love the production, except for the vocals and one really annoying tom(the one at the left). Like ahjteam, I think vocals should be more upfront.

nah, alternative country is a genre of music. i guess its a way to say country, but when you say country you think of alan jackson and toby keith and this is def not that. Alternative country = the jayhawks, old wilco, son volt, uncle tupelo, the bottle rockets... stuff like that.
I agree with both you guys about the vocals. i realized that this was a bigger problem then i thought when listening to the mixes in my car. Its hard to mix vocals cause i dont have proper monitors. i only have a pair of headphones and some really fabricated speakers. So yes i agree the vocals need to come up. (although i dont beleive they need to come up in "im a grown ass man")
I also like the tone of the guitars for the most part on "the one about winter". I think if they were grittier then it would be hard to make out any of the parts. And im not sure what you meant about the beginning needing piano? it has piano.
