Sabbat - The Dwelling - The Melody of Death Mask.

I had never noticed I had this laying around my computer for a while, and while organizing my files last night, decided to listen to it.

This is 59 minutes of sheer asskickage, it goes from slow to fast, to a full out drum assault, to getting slammed in the balls by the guitars, to hell even a bass ****ing lead.

Everything transitions over into the next section PERFECTLY, and dear god, it just has such an amazing charm to it.

Go listen to it, forget about all your Green Carnations, Devil Dolls, Sleeps, or whatever band you can name with HUGE long songs, this WILL kick its ass.

What genre is it? I don't particularly care for 60-minute prog or doom songs, but if it's melodic death or black I'm sure I'd love it.

This is pure old school black metal, not the lo-fi produced kind either, but just like ... great shit. Thats all I can call it.

I think The Dwelling is the only one that hasn't now, actually. Disembody was just recently released. Even their early 7" releases are available on Sabbatical Holocaust.

"Karisma" was their best. I haven't heard every single thing by them (holy shit, who has with a catalogue of one trillion releases?), but I've heard most of their stuff: I couldn't even fathom them doing better than that album. "The Dwelling" fucking rules as well.

i always got put off them because they shared the same name as the English Sabbat...who i think are also a phenomenal and very different thrash band !!

but years later i re- discovered them, again and you're not wrong they are great !!
