A Queensryche Cruise...

Controversial opinion ahead....

Queensryche have never put out a stinker. The albums from the 90's marked a significant change in direction but that never bothered me as I wouldn't have wanted to hear retreads of Roads to Madness, London, Breaking the Silence etc etc. HITNF, Q2K and Tribe never once tried to recapture their unique 80's vibe and that is what makes those albums enjoyable to me.

No controversy here. It's without saying that I disagree, but I understand your point of view. Queensryche still has a strong following all over the world, so they must be doing something right. With that said, I just don't like what they're doing.

QR NEVER put out a stinker?
Riddle me this then.....

1) Why after TRIBE did the band do numerous tours performing Mindcrime in its entirety?
2) Why did they write an album Mindcrime II?
3) Why did they record a covers album?

That's great if you found some of their less popular material appealing. I think the band though has shown little faith in their post-Empire material.

This began when they recorded the live album (Live Evolution, I think???) where they did a couple songs chronologically from each album.

Then they released countless live albums showcasing classic QR tracks.

All these actions have left QR to be nothing more than a retro band to me, as well as MANY others.

I applaud the band for taking certain actions to attempt to stay relevant. Though as a recording band, it displays little faith in their ability to write another classic, leaving them in "retro" mode.

I know you won't agree, and that's fine.

Queensryche should have renamed themselves ... De-Evolution, or Regression after PL.

Tribe, and especially Q2K are crap. HITNF is at least half crappy as well. OMII was passable, but also crap when compared to the original. Basically they haven't put out a standout since Promised Land.

Yeah, if the Pack don't pick it up pretty soon I'm going to dump this one. I don't think they've won since I switched to this. This could be the week though ... they've got the Bears in Lambeau.

And just to keep this thread on track ... I'd have no interest cruising around with Queensryche these days.

Now if Chris DeGarmo were still with them this would be a possibility but IMO Queensryche without DeGarmo and Skid Row without Baz are just not the same.

I miss Chris DeGarmo, but I do have to say that when I saw Mindcrime I/II performed live, I was quite impressed with the dual guitar work from Messrs. Wilton and Stone.

Wow. They're the third biggest cruise line!?

Oooohhhhh, yes. I have heard of them...the folks who brought us the Achille Lauro.
Note to self: look into extra travel insurance.

Sorry, but I haven't had much respect for this band in the last two years. I even got rid of all my Ryche stuff sometime back. :puke:

I think I have a few years on you…so the older stuff will *always* be a part of my listening enjoyment. I remember the days of eagerly anticipating each new release…the thrill of finding a copy in the local record store (vinyl up until “Empire”)…and then being absolutely enthralled as I played it for hours and hours on end. The original Mindcrime is 20+ years old and still kicks ass!

I applaud the band for taking certain actions to attempt to stay relevant. Though as a recording band, it displays little faith in their ability to write another classic, leaving them in "retro" mode.

Of course, the irony is that at some point in the process of reinventing themselves (fans will argue as to exactly when), they *stopped* being relevant.
