A question for Mikael

I would have to agree that bri could be broken up into 3 songs but that's only musically, as far as the lyrics go no way it would just mess everything up. But I definatly like long songs better than short one, not to say that a short song can't be awsome but I always enjoyed epic songs *hint hint, Mikael*

Although I love a quality epic (Iced Earth - Dante's Inferno), and although I don't think the song should have been split into three different songs per se, I think they should at least split songs like that into separate tracks (BRI Pt. 1, BRI Pt. 2, etc.). Many CD's (especially live ones) use seamless track connections. I think it makes things more convenient (skipping to certain parts without having to rely on a resume feature, wanting to hear only particular parts, etc.) without sacrificing the quality and unity-feel of the epic.

Song length dosn't matter unless it is executed well, which in my opinion BRI isn't. A good "song" with some good riffs, but it just dosn't do it for me.

Black Rose Immortal seems to be very unconnected... it's just a piece that weaves in and out of acoustic/electric material and just continues that formula for 20 minutes. I like it for what it contains and I think that by no doubt it is only most people's favourite Opeth track because of its length (I would love to see how long a 6 min BRI would fare on the 'favourite track' polls). There is nothing exceptional in BRI that you won't find in other Opeth tracks... it's just that those tracks are unconnected and each hold a certain part, making people not notice those songs as much as one that contains just about everything.

This chat reminds me of a Floyd song, I think it was called 'Shine On You Crazy Diamond'. On the original vinyl, It covered a whole side. But when it was re-released, it was broken into 7 parts. Shame really, that spoiled the song.

I couldn't agree more; perfect example!
