The new songs sound great! This Mortal Coil made the top of my annual best-of list. Only time will tell if The Art of Loss will be a repeat, but the first listen is very promising and will no doubt be right up there. Since you guys probably won't make it to Raleigh, NC, I am sure there is a road trip in my future!

The Art of Loss arrived in the mail yesterday. While there are still ten months in year, I can safely say that with only a couple of listens-through that The Art of Loss will be a contender for #1 on my annual list. Ray's voice sounds fantastic. The recording quality is terrific. As always, Nick gives plenty of opportunity for the guitars to tear it up and tear it up they do. Simone, Marty, Chris B, Chris P, and Nick are all beasts. Chis Q and Sean thunder along, not allowing the guitars to be the only beasts. Concerning the compositions, Nick may have achieved a new level of accessibility without losing any punch and balls.

...Nicks songs that hits on a personal level that no band does...

There's music I like and there's music I love. And then there's music I have a visceral reaction to. That reaction may take many forms, from anger to awe and from joy to sadness. However, songs like "Sapphire" and "Memory" somehow touch upon something even deeper. They not only offer a window into the mind of an artist that few artists are willing or even capable of offering, but resonate loudly against the shared experience of loss. It's for that reason Redemption isn't a band I can listen to often, but always leaves me mesmerized when I do.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I don't listen to Redemption terribly often because it's too much feels. It keeps me from doing the things I need to do.

That said, a few days ago I learned that someone who meant a lot to me had passed away. First place I went was Redemption.
