Actually, Yngwie didn't say that he liked (or had even listened to) any of those bands, but just that they sell big overseas but are ignored in the U.S.

The biggest problem with Yngwie-bashing is that most of it is based on fiction (or on the momentum of trendiness).

bwahahahahha, yeah man, when he wears those jackets with no shirt on underneath? Even Stump (who Ive seen wear some pretty "80s rockstar"ish things onstage) was talkin about him once and said "someone's gotta tell Yngwie to give that shit a rest"

Most of the shredders I know that grew up listening to him and are directly influenced by him are never the ones that go out of their way to bash him because of non-guitar related things (fattness, arrogance etc). I was talkin to Romeo after the worcester show and he said something along the lines of "its a shame Yngwie has to keep embarassing himself all the time because he's a really great player." So true. I bet if he was the nicest guy in the world half of you wouldn't rag on him like you do. Despite his arrogance I still think he's one of the greatest metal guitarists *ever* and without him, well, I'll tell you one thing, we probably wouldn't have Symphony X.
