A word on the new Eldritch disc...

Talk about a 180 degree turn! It is totally back to the Headquake/El Nino era. Welcome back the keys and the PROG!

Eldritch + Crunch + *Prog* = Happy Promoter

Oh hell yeah!

I prefer the Neighbourhell and Blackenday stuff. I'm starting to really loathe the word "prog" already. Flame if you must. I'm entitled to my opinion as much as anyone else.

I worked with a guy not from the US, and he thought that when I talked about "Prog" power, it meant "Prague" Power. He couldn't get over that I was going to fly from Milwaukee and be there in 2 hours. For the rest of the time we worked together, he kept asking me if I was going to "Prague" again that year.
I really hate the word "Prague", but I'd sure like to go there one day... :)

Nothing wrong with either one of those discs. They have a different vibe to them than their earlier work, but I listen to them all the same. Just a different direction for those two albums.

Why the hate for the word Prog? Do Power Metal fans feel that intimidated?

For some reason, it always appear as the Power Metal fans are actually afraid Prog metal will take over and rule it all. I sense a certain fear a lot of times, while the proggers simply ignore whatever they don't like (many times it's the power metal bands). While the proggers don't give a shit, the power guys get all bent out of shape...

Go figure...

Maybe power fans are always "gearing up" for battle! :dopey:

I think the subject of harsh/growled vocals alone is enough evidence that both camps do their fair share of complaining about things they don't like.

Perhaps. Though I still think the amount of prog metal fans that can't stand death vocals might be equal the amount of power metal fans that can't stand death vocals.

I thought his comment more was referring to how when people say "prog" - it's automatically implying something credible and good.

Like how 99% of bands always state their new releases are "heavy" or the "heaviest" thing they've done.

It means nothing cause so overused

I didn't think he was getting into a power/prog debate

Could be wrong though

Relax folks.

I was specifically referring to Eldritch returning to my personal preferred era/style for them.

I didn't look at it this way. Now that I think about it, you might be right.
