I don't have the time to delve any deeper into this now, but I must say that I have always thought it to be pretty obvious that the aforementioned schism between humanistic views (art and such) and hard-set scientific views (chaos theory etc) has always (well, especially around The Mind's I era) been one of many dualisms in the world around us that has inspired the band, particularly the lyricists Mikael and Niklas. They have always been interested in contradictions and questioning the different perceptions, it seems to me. Instead of looking at either man as a supporter of either side in this abstract struggle, I see them using the very conflict to draw inspiration from it and to form tangential views of their own. And for that they need to have quite an insight into both the realms (humanism/science) - which I think is very well represented in their lyrics (on which all this is based upon; I can't recall myself actually having discussed about these things with the guys themselves, so don't take this as the ultimate truth).
