Anyone else worship AC/DC as much as I do? Personally, I think they're one of the greatest rock bands ever. I like their early stuff better as I think Bon Scott was a great vocalist - he was like a redneck, beer-swilling, sexaholic mechanic with a cocky punk sneer.

Great live band, as well! AC/DC was one of the first real big concerts I went to as a kid.

I really, really don't like this band. I much prefer Guns N' Roses for this type of music, because Slash at least made his solos somewhat interesting, and they have much more variety. After a certain point, I just find it really difficult to distinguish certain ACDC songs from each other, because they all sound the fucking same.

The fact that AC/DC songs sound much the same is actually a quality, as far as I'm concerned. I would liken that same quality to Credence Clearwater Revival, Bolt Thrower or Motorhead. While I don't mind creative or technical innovation, these bands fill a need when you just simply want to rock the fuck out. There is, after all, a certain beauty in simplicity.

Well said. I fucking love AC/DC. They were the first "heavy" rock band I ever got into as a child. The Bon Scott albums are all gold, and the first couple with Brian Johnson are also fantastic. Bon Scott is most definitely my favorite rock vocalist & frontman. To dislike them due to their simplicity is to miss the point entirely.

I dont worship them but they have been a great band for good times. Kind of like ZZ Top, Van Halen, Nugent and yes like CCR in their day. Its pretty much mandatory that any rock cover band playing bar/dance gigs plays a few AC DC tunes, they get everyone out on the floor quick. Angus is a great guitar player.

Tame, no memorable riffs, no memorable hooks..... Ya, OK, makes sense to me.......

See, I'd prefer anyone of those bands you mentioned over ACDC. Especially ZZ Top, I don't think you can put them in the same league as ACDC.

Its all music based on the same principle was the point, that and the idea that they were all peak popularity in the same period, addressing the same audience on commercial rock radio. Of the four I'd place ZZ and AD (lol) closest on their more straight forward blues rock, basic song, approach too. Where the Nuge and VanHalen were more bombastic. I think AC DC was to a large crowd what ZZ Top was to their crowd. I have said they were the UK's answer to ZZ. Many people might have listened to some more complex music but still enjoyed both or either one of these bands just for the fun of their music.

That kind of thing

Billy Gibbons is one of the best "blues" guitarists out there. A good album to demonstrate this is, "One Foot in the Blues" AC/DC have been making the same album for 25-30 years, but that's part of their charm. You know, "what you see is what you get." I admire them for that. Straight up, in-your-face-blues/rock. No deviation. Bon Scott is a "hero" vocalist for a lot of singers I know.

It's true, of all the mainstream blues guitarists, he's easily one of the best. When I saw them live with Brooks and Dunn (lol, skipped their set), Billy pretty much improvised whole songs at times, merging one with another and so on. I also find it amusing that he uses a dime or something as a pick.

Hell, Tres Hombres was darn near ground breaking, perhaps a wrong choice of words but to me it was ground breaking for that style of music, but then no body else ever really sounded like them. They were quite different from any of the other American hardrock bands at that time. Please dont anybody start an arguement about how they werent really "hardrock", that was pretty heavy blues boogie in its day - '73. I find it interesting to know now that it was their third album. Cant say as I've heard the other two. So what Im saying is Billy can write a hell of a song and riffs that sticks to your ribs too. He is probably my biggest guitar influence, I cant seem to get that boogie style of rhythmn out of my system.

Couldnt it be said that ZZ Top wrote a few songs of the same old song as well ?

Back to AC/DC, has anyone else ever seen that old footage, I believe on VH1 of AC/DC in their very early days ? It was a full concert in like some old theater that had the seats stepped up like a movie theater and they were playing to what looked like mostly a college audience. Seeing that footage changed my opinion of them alot, I never used to like them back in the day but I have been lightening up on them the past 15 years or so.... that concert changed my view even more. Angus was wailing like a madman and was spitting out blues licks better than anyone else I can think of at that time, almost along the lines of Alvin Lee... perhpas one of his influences ?

Of the four bands I mentioned in this popular butt kickin form of rock Van Halen is the only one I own... tapes and records from anymore. I'd like to get Tres Hombres and Fandango again, not sure Eliminator or Afterburner are worth buying when you can just turn on the radio and eventually hear darn near every song anyhow.

I come from fucking Australia, I get inundated with their shit all the time. It's painful, lowest common denominator cookiecutter white bread trash. Just accept it.

Its music with a purpose and has the results to prove success. Granted common people like many kinds of music and/or songs that dont float my boat but much of that is much worse than AC/DC. You just put down everyone that enjoys that kind of music, by calling them lowest common demoninator, white bread trash which is complete bullshit in every definition of the word... you have a shit attitude which makes you trash... so we can all just accept that fact.

Have a nice day

For fans of Billy Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard try "One Foot In The Blues." It contains their first 2 albums and various tracks from other records. The song-"I left my Head in Missisippi." is a little strange.

I find them to be fairly overrated and redundant, although I like some of their classic songs. I don't see the point of listening to an entire album by them because one song is enough and I never listen to them on my own.

Challenge: Did AC/DC beat up your Dad or something? That's quite the OTT opinion you're sporting there. No matter how much you hate them, surely you can admit that they have some memorable songs/hooks/riffs in their repertoire. And Angus Young is a great guitarist and brilliant performer.

Angus Young is a great guitar player whose technique is abundant. Take the main riff of 'Have a Drink on Me' - the use of subtle bends in this riff make for one hell of a groove and it's fun as hell to play. I'd challenge any guitar player to learn that song and not have fun playing it.
