I'm using AD for tracking drums and I've made my own preset to use. However everything comes processed in some way ie EQ on kick drum and compression etc. Is it best to turn all of that off on everything so that the drums are purely free from processing to sound exactly as they are recorded until everything else has been recorded?

Indeed very nice track mate. Everything sounds very nice. What did you use for bass?

Also how do you guys think AD compares to Superior Drummer 2 including TMF?

Well i also wish to learn about this.. i use to think ad was the best .. until i hear some mixes in this forum using superior.

I believe AD is great for anything but metal, if you need dinamics, then AD.. for metal and strong hits... i think superior is the best

I used my Fender Strat with EMG-89 for guitars and bass, pitch shift the bass track down an octave and then process like normal bass really.

@domingooo: AD seems to work great for me with pretty much any style... especially metal. If you can't get it to work well you are probably the problem, not AD. I only have to replace the kick drum, which you will have to do with S2.0 too, all of the best clips of S2.0 on here are with replaced kick... and most of them also have extra snares blended with the S2.0 snare. Not saying my drum sound is fucking amazing or anything but I don't blend anything in.

Sounds pretty "strong" to me... ;)

Here is my AD preset, you will have to send the kick out for replacement though: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/794136/GrooveKit.ADPreset.zip

Thanks for sharing your AD preset I might try it out later to see if I prefer it to the one I've made. What do you tend to do with the drums or is it literally programmed in and then add everything on top of it?

Yes!!! they sound great... an thank you for sharing your preset.. AD is a great piece of soft no doubt about it. I (personal preference here) still like superior better for metal stuff. don't know why.

by the way.. great sound on guitars too!! :)

I just load a template I made in Cubase which has AD with that preset and has the kick being replaced already, as well as tracks for the guitars and bass with their plugs already loaded and ready too. I program the drums after writing and tracking the riffs to a click, everything is a template at this point after tweaking things here and there over a long period of time.

This preset does not work on mac, do i have to convert it somehow or what?

Wohoo, been lurking here for sometime but this is the first post :)

Thanks guys!

E: Seems like i should have ".aupreset" as a file extension in order to load presets.. Is there any way to convert this?

It should work on Mac man, I made it on a Mac, that's all I have/use - but regardless, AD uses it's own proprietary extension which is universal on Mac or PC anyway. You open it in Addictive Drums. Click here (where it says "Startup" on this image):

And this menu should come up:

Click on Load and navigate to the preset.

If that doesn't work, you can manually change the extension of the file by just renaming it whatever.ADpreset and it will ask if you want to change the extension. .ADpreset is the extension, but again you shouldn't have to do that at all. In fact I just downloaded my own file I linked and it works perfectly fine for me.

Hey 006 thanks for sharing!!
I use sample for the kick and snare, but I still don't found any good snare.
When the snare go fast this sound very electronic. How can I fix that?

edit the velocity of the midi and humanize it by moving your hits a bit away from the grid. You can set this up in Cubase 5 very easily.

Also make sure you're ussing multisamples (especially on the snare).

How it works? change the kick this make a real difference in the sound.
But still i fell it sound electronic.

You can use multisampling with both Drumagog 5 and Slate's Trigger. You can also use two or more Drumagog 4 instances with different samples on a single track.

Funny, what I happen to like most about AD is the bd.. Though I hate the 'humanizing' there really sucks for fast passages.

The toms are more realistic/beefier than any others I've tried. Too bad there's no 5th tom... :erk: I really miss that!
