Hi all. I am about to launch a brand of my current business with services geared toward sound technology companies, e.g. Cubase (all DAW manufacturers), Avid, Universal Audio and so on and so forth (it's just to give you the idea). The people to whom we should reach out are based in the following departments: content management (includes localization, technical writing etc.), marketing, procurement, product management, project management, (internal) communications, business process outsourcing.

The question is in what magazines - online and offline, Europe and US - it would be the best to publish the ads so that they reach the targeted audience mentioned above so that we don't spend the money in vain?

I have made a list - please voice your opinions which are the best and which are not worth a buck. Plus, of course, please add any that you think are worthwhile or better than my hits.

Thank you for your help and participation in advance.

I only read sound on sound if that's of any help. I'm sure some smaller online foot prints such as Jon's audiogeekzine, this forum, gearslutz and tape op would also have very competitive prices.

At least in the beginning I would try to get some testimonials and stuff, send free versions of your product
or whatever to the magazines, advertising in print media is pretty expensive, you may reach your potential
target audience but here's the problem:
1. Not everyone looks at the ads
2. Not everyone who looks at the ads is interested in your product
3. The timeframe to show the most important infos about your product is only about 2 seconds long, so you
have to be able to get all the necessary info to be memorable if you get what I mean.

Your main target audience is probably used to use a computer and the internet, probably spents some time
online-try to invest into the online market, there are lots of different ways like the boards amarshism described.
Besides that, a good advertising idea doesn't have to cost millions, depends on the product/service you want
to sell.

For example, if I would like to sell a VST Plugin I would try to get a professional internet prescence, that means
a nice looking, well built homepage, soundsamples of the plugin, involve social media and spread the word on FB,
Twitter and so on.
Get some guys a free version of it like Ahjteam so they could try it out, may do their own video review that gets
posted on Youtube, post links to the video on Twitter and FB, due to all the backlinking and stuff it will be easier
to find your product later.
So after you did this the word may spread a bit by itself due to boards like this and so on, at that point I would
invest into print advertising but only on a few quality magazines but with larger and nice looking ads.
And try to give good support and service, this helps alot to get longterm-customers who will spread the word.

Besides that, sorry, I have no clue about magazines-most of the stuff I read about recording is on this board ;)

Hi guys. Thank you for your feedback so far. I am waiting for more. What we are about to sell is SERVICE, not a product - that's a major difference. And the targets are pretty well described.

If it helps, I would ask an example question: "What magazines does Director of Product Management at Universal Audio read?" or ""What magazines does Software Localization Manager at Cakewalk read?"

Looking forward to more tips.

Ok, I wasn't 100% sure if it's a serivce or a product because I was pretty tired when I wrote that post.
If you want to reach a few special persons, I would try to reach them direct or people who work with
them instead of trying to make them aware of your service through an ad in a magazine they might read.
