Advice on EXODUS tone with XXX!

Hey everyone, trying to capture a GARY HOLT sound outta my XXX!
Here I have 3 wav files, the 1st containing drums and guitars
2nd containing drums, guitars and bass
and 3rd containing drums, guitar bass and leads.

This is my 1st attempt, so any advice would be appreciated, cheers.
Note: These are all raw, no post processing, just a presonus EQ3B between mic and MBOX.

the lead tone sounds like its almost there the rhythm tone has the crunch and low end but dont sound as in yourface.
i think there were a pick of his settings on here somewhere?

i have a xxx ,5150 ,dual rec and the xxx is my fav

fucking love it man

To put the sound more "in your face" you have to increase the mids in the Rhythm guitars, add a compression and multiband compression or tape saturation. If you work a more punchy drum sound, that will help too.

Thanx for the help again Nuno, will try it this weekend.
Any other info from Sneapsters regarding the "in your face" issues I'm having? :)

I'd use the EQ3B before the amp like they did on Atrocity, I hope Alejandro doesn't mind me posting this...

Use the Crunch Channel with those settings and see how you do.

Thanx cobhc. Yeah, got that pic off rig talk a couple of years back. Havent used those settings as i have lost the pics..., so thanx for posting.

Will try the presonus before the amp, also have a hbe power screamer, doomsday device (No 13, evil) and an uno mos. Will fuck around with them over the week and see how I go.

i think Garys tones are some of the sickest Ive heard for standard and a bit below tuning.

Im inside the dust cap already, just not in the centre, but will try your recommendation, cheers mate. :headbang:

Will do it tonight, gotta go and play golf now. I'll try playing normally and then I'll give Genius' recommendation a go. Only hassle will be the tracks are going to be totally raw, as I have no idea on processing a great guitar tone. Should I quadtrack or not? I'll use the eq3b before the amp and the maxon, using the settings in the pic cohbc posted.

OK, all done. There are 4 30 sec tracks done. No processing or pass filters.
These are the 4 tracks in order, (please excuse my shitty playing).

LIVE SETTINGS; Whats on the amp and the eq3b in the pic.
REC SETTINGS: The purple marks on the amp and the eq3b.

1. XXX (crunch channel) live settings, dual tracked
2. XXX (crunch channel) rec settings, dual tracked
3. XXX (ultra channel) live settings, dual tracked
4. XXX (ultra channel) rec settings, dual tracked
All settings (including the MASTER and VOLUME) are exact as in the pic, (had to guess the 2 mid buttons on the eq3b) but moving those 2 did jack shit! Send and return volumes are at 2 o'clock as GARY suggests in another post.

Mic was sm-57 straight on the middle of the dust cap, on a Randall warhead cab w/v30s. Tubes are JJs in the pre and JJ EL-34s in the power section, biased slightly hotter than 12 o'clock. Guitar was an Ibanez prestige J craft RG 3120DAM with IBZ/DiMarzio pups.

Well, after all that, I think 3 of them sound like arse :puke: and one is reasonable. Remembering that these are raw tracks, I think the shiity 3 are way off the mark. Personally, I like 4 the best and 2 the next.

Yeah, they don't have anywhere near the right amount of cut, what power amp dampening are you using? And here's Gary's rig, though the settings are the same, minus the EQ3B
