I can safely say i haven't written a metal song in a few years, but recently i've started to get an idea in my head to do a little EP or something.

This is just a quick little part I recorded today for the sake of figuring out possible tones:

I like your tone, but it seems very dark or muddy. not sure how to describe it. Maybe EQ some more highs or raise mids a bit? But the overall tone sounds good to me at least.

That drum fill is awkward as fuck. The tone sounds good. I think it's the cymbals that are causing the imbalance.

Im feeling the OH and Room mics are a bit too high in the mix perhaps
