Agalloch - In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion - 11:59

after a cd-r trade with doom i've now heard this albums a few times.

conclusion:
1. in the shadow of our pale companion is the best song i've heard in a long long while; sheer and utter beauty.
2. the entire album seems to be almost as good, and i can't understand why i've not given them time before being a great fan of ulver and empyrium.

thanks doom for sending me this, though it's a bit annoying that the last track was full of strange sound distorsion. not that horrible since i'll get a real copy as soon as i can

that is all ;)

The Mantle took me like 2 years to fully appreciate. SHIT I think I left it at somebody's house a few weeks ago.

really? this is the third time i'm listening to it and i'm already very impressed.

(hm, but perhaps you were as well after a few times and it went from really good to ethereal in two years time... yes?)

Well I never disliked it, but for a long time it was just one of those "yeah it's alright" albums that I found pretty boring at times. Then I don't know quite when it happened, but it really clicked one day. Now I love it, and you know, gay babies and such.

I will say this -- I have always loved all Agalloch music from the get-go, but seeing them perform live made me fall in love with the music even more. Of course, a good live performance will inevitably give the music an 'edge', with opportunity for improvisation, so the emotion completely drains you as a listener particularly when the band themselves play until they (literally) collapse on stage.

Quite extraordinary.

hahaha, I just got an email from The End saying they never received my Paypal payment for the split (which I believe since the same thing happened to one of my eBay orders). The End is shipping it today. Too bad I ordered another copy from Willowtip earlier this week.

heh

That's weird considering I told you to check that, and you said the payment went through right? EEEEEIRWDS.

I think the email they sent me was regarding the Ensiferum CD, and I thought they were talking about both.

To me, "The Mantle" was an album that I loved the first time I heard it, but it's grip on has gradually faded out. I find it horribly boring/dry/repeticious sometimes, but at other times it completely captivates me. One thing that's always bothered me was the lyrics; they give me the impression that the writers tried WAY too hard. Nuts to that. I still listen to it once in a while, but rarely to the whole thing.

Huh. I think the lyrics are pretty fucking stellar. Anyhoo, the album got 8.5 when I reviewed it not too long following its release, but it's perhaps time for an update since I'd now rank it 9.5 or so. "Pale Folklore" still beats it though.

well i have only listened to it once, but lets just say it didn't exactly shatter my previous conceptions of good metal. but hey, maybe it grows immensly after some listenings... or not hehe, but in that case i've traded a crappy cd for another crappy so it's not such a big deal

I'll say this, the Deathspell Omega side is about 300 times better than the Clandestine Blaze one. "The Suicide Curse" is a great song in particular.
I'd say it's only about 200 or 250 (tops) times better. :Spin:

hehe yeah that's about how much i concluded; if you're not paying attention you could be forgiven for thinking you've accidentaly started listening to a crappy cover of selected parts of transylvanian hunger.

before i heard any of his material i was a bit curious as to why some fools pay huge sums for his lps, now, i'm just flummoxed
