I mentioned Opeth in another music forum some days ago and my reply was...

I have heard them and I never really liked them due to the fact that the songs a very long and they tend to fill the weak parts in the songwriting with keyboards. I think that bands like Cenotaph, At the gates and such creates that kind of music in a much better way.

Does this person have a problem??? He needs a big kick up his ass!

By saying htey fill the weak parts with keyboards, he would be counter-arguing with himself. They only use keyboards maybe 2% of the time in their albums (if that), thus he's saying that Opeth's music is near perfectly strong. Hmm....

Hey what's the problem? Imagine everyone would like Opeth... Wouldn't that be horrible? In that case, Opeth would be mainstream (cos mainstream is defined as music that lots of people like) - Opeth and mainstream? waaah...

Why not simply ignore people when they try and critique something they obviously have no knowledge about?

I didnt bring this up beacause that the dude didnt like Opeth...he can think whathever he want about them... I dont care.

But when he brings up totally strange "non-Opeth" reasons like..."they tend to fill the weak parts in the songwriting with keyboards"

The guy hasnt even listened to Opeth! and doesnt know a shit about them...

Gongs? That would be awesome!
Imagine a super-progressive Opeth album. Like Mike Oldfield+Yes+Opeth....
Oh nevermind I am just blabbering heh...

Opeth overuses the accordion, bagpipes, and gongs WAYYY too much, it's sickening really, and of all twelve of their albums I have found nothing satisfying, you guys need to listen to a true metal band like Blink 182, Peace out dogs!

Ha! You've yet to do a post that doesn't make me laugh! Cheers!

I remember reading an interview with Mikael a few years back about why Opeth didn't use keyboards. He said something like 'I think if a band has genuine musical talent they don't need to use keyboards to make music atmospheric.' I don't think (although someone is DEFINITELY going to correct me on this) they have ever used electronic keyboards, I can only remember acoustic piano. I hope someone points out this thread to the fool who made that post. He's looking like a right plum now!

I got tubular bells II and III the other day! They are really quite similar to the original aren't they ;)

I don't mind that really as long as he's saying - "look this is what I would do with tubular bells in the years 2000" kinda thing. If he's just being unoriginal, then... he's being very unoriginal
