Just a heads up that AirTran, a major carrier into/out of Atlanta, has announced a major sale for travel out to November. I would imagine other carriers will follow suit. You may want to check this week for some good deals. Sample would be Chicago/Atlanta RT (Wed-Sun) for $214 total.

$264 out of NYC seems like the best at this time. Still seeing $500 out of Albany. Wish Southwest would add Atlanta. I can also fly out of White Plains at $240 but Laguardia is easier for me to get to with the cheapo Megabus.

I don't know how Delta stays in business with $600 nonstop roundtrip flights.

Flying back to White Plains? Hm... How hard is it to get to the train? Unfortunately because I'm in Albany I think I'd have to catch Metro North and then transfer to Amtrak somewhere.

I was under the impression that there is Amtrak in White Plains, but I guess not? There is a shuttle that takes you directly from the train station (MetroNorth) to the airport, and it runs daily. I'm not sure the price, but I know it's cheap.

The only reason why I am flying back to HPN is because it's more convenient to have the wife pick me up afterwards. I fly out of LGA because there's more options when it comes to flight times - and it's cheaper as well. If I were to leave out of HPN, I'd either have the 7am flight or the 4pm flight.

Would Bradley be an option for ya?

Bradley is barely cheaper than Albany. I think I might just do LGA roundtrip. I have people I can stay with in NYC Wednesday night or just take a bus/train down early Thursday morning with a mid-afternoon flight.
I think closest Amtrak station is over a 30 min drive away with no shuttle so that'd be a pretty expensive taxi.

Southwest bought Airtran, so technically they did add Atlanta.

Edit: bleh, $264 from DC.

Merge isn't final as shareholders only just today approved the merger. It's part of the reason I kind of want to hold off but its a tough climate to judge if prices will decline or just spike up again.

Point being that Southwest isn't going to open a gate in Atlanta if they are planning on getting Airtran's gates. Gates are a finite resource at airports anyways, and probably will be the only way Southwest gets in.

BTW, I expect the merger will go through, tho I don't think it will affect prices all that much in the near term. BTW, Delta is also at the same price to Atlanta.

Yes, the merger was approved, but SW is now awaiting government approval. They *hope* to possibly begin codesharing and have flights into Atlanta as soon as the government gives the go ahead, but I would say to not wait around for that to happen. It could take all the way to June for everything to wrap up.

On the topic of lower airfares, I booked with American in Feb. The same ticket today is $53 more.

$212 for the MKE to ATL .Looks like my ex favorite airline merged, and no longer flies to Atlanta from Milwaukee. Depending on the price of gas by Sept., this MIGHT be the cheaper option...
