AKG C1000s for Cymbals

Personally i'm not very fond of the C1000, i used em 2 weeks ago for overheads, couldn't get the sound i wanted, sure the drums weren't that good, but a week after we got a much better sound using a pair of Studio Projects C3 and also a pair of Shure KSM 27 or whatever they're called.
The C1000 is around $200 right? The C3 is $270 i believe and the KSM just above, but i'm guessing you can get a great sound with the B3 as well which is only $160 or go for the C1 which is the same price as the C1000.

I don't really care for the C1000 and avoid them when possible. Seems like GC is closing out the oktava MK012 for next to nothing and those are pretty decent sounding on cymbals for the $.

Yes, there are.

And theses fakes seem to be sold at guitarcenter really cheap.

Maybe the recognized that they haven't bought originals.
:ill:

I had the C1000.
It's good for Acoustic guitars (as someone here also told) and ok for pretty everything.
But it colors the sound pretty much especially on crashes.
I also think there is better stuff for the same price.
But the c1000 has some advantages. you can put a battery in there and change the directional characteristic with some plastic stuff.

I used one on a hi-hat once, it made the hi-hat sound plastic, so we used a Rode NT1 instead, much better.

yeah, i'm not happy with the results i've had with c1000s for o/heads / hats, was thinking of trying out some rode nt5s, anyone had any experience with these, especially when compared to the nt1?

To my ears, c1000's are thin sounding. I'll never use it again except on snare bottom maybe. I also tested it on an Hi-Hat. Just awful.
About se electronics and all the chinese budget -so called condenser- microphones (most likely comming from the same factory--- Studio projects, MXL, T-bone, behringer, newer Oktava's, M-audio and also AKG and Audio-technica bottom price range products), they all have the same issues: too much high frequencies that you may find nice while monitoring a single source (as I did) but almost impossible to fit in the mix.
Some Rode products are in the middle of the road between cheap chinese and professional products. Best choice on a budget imho.
My nt3's are somewhat harsh sounding but darker than se electronics.
I'll post an A/B test on OH if you want.

That would be interesting to hear. I know SE actually have their own factory in china and dont build for nor sub in from anyone else. Only thing ive been disappointed with is the stereo bar and the grips on the cradles. Ive been really please with the mics either live or in the studio

One more thing:

Rode NT3 vs SE 1A.
Only OH, no eq, XY, 44.1khz/24bit straight into firepod's preamps @44.1khz/24bit , really quick made, so it's far from perfection but still you can make your own opinion.

I love to do those kind of shit :Spin:

Ah yeah. The guy at SE told me himself not to buy the SE1a and to go for the SE3 much much better.
