*sigh* .....ok ...its the JACKSON GAIN BOOST, INSIDE THE ESP! its not an ESP circuit! And he has it going with the EMG-HZ4, and yes, you can rig the JE whatever it is to work with PASSIVE EMG's...but all thats beside the point! I was merely pinpointing when HE GOT THE THING PUT IN!

Mmh, what's a gain boost ? Is it the little black button ?
What's its function ? To make the guitar scream even more ?
And as you're talking about passive/active PU, what's the difference between both ?
I kow some suck and some don't (mmh, a very smart sentence), or something like that, but don't really know exactly what it is.

active pickups actually have a little preamp in it, and thats where most of the tone comes from. They also require 9volt batteries (which thankfully dont need to be replaced too often, even if you play a LOT).

My EMgs have been going a good year without battery replacement.

According to the site, you get 1000 hours from 1 9v battery

yeah i know you can rig anything with anything, but the question is, will it work, and if it does, the other question is, will it work -well-..... ?

problem is, "esp" and "work well" don't really go together in the same sentence without some sort of negation adverb.

When I had EMG in my old guitar, it was 81, I had to replace the battery after 4 months, I just play fucking much :p

btw this bain boost system is cool, but I prefer standart activities like, turning vol on yuor axe down a bit so that your gain is cut enough to play clean sounds...

Even with passive pickups you can get some fuckin screaming tones, the gain boost doesn't have to come from the pickup (or the guitar) itself......... there's no law that says your output -HAS- to be plugged directly to a standard, regular guitar PA input :D

Understanding the underlying dynamics of distortion and gain boost is a very good advantage in tailoring your sound just the way you like in the studio, but yeah it's true that it gets a bit tiresome to carry around and setup all that stuff on the road.... personally i've always been more of a studio guitarist anyway.

uh have you ever played a REAL ESP before? Not one of those shitty LTDs but a REAL ESP. I have an ESP M-II and its the most solid guitar Ive ever played. In fact most people I know who've played real ESPs agree they're some of the finest guitars they've ever played.

word Yngvai. You put it beautifully...but really ....who the fuck cares WHAT you play as long as you PLAY? YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!! An ESP LTD that costs 200 out the door wont even compare to the custom shop models....but hell, go ahead and shoot yourself in the foot and believe for the rest of your life ESP or any other company sucks just becuase of stories and or opinions...you're playing guitar for all the wrong reasons if its that big of a deal to you...sorry to rant, but im so fucking sick of this brand loyalty shit. Change is a good thing. The whole purpose of this thread was to pinpoint when he got the damn thing put in for historical reference, not to turn into some pissing match of how good one company is to another...
