Vocals - Jorn Lande
Guitar - Scott Ian

Bass - Frank Bello
Drums - Virgirl Donati

Vocals - Russel Allen (Symphony X)
Guitar - Frank Gosdzik (kreator)
Guitar - Shane Linfoot (:notworthy )
Bass - geddy lee (rush)
Drums - Wayne Campbell (mortal sin)

Vocals: Steve Perry
Guitar: Steven Wilson
Guitar: Alex Lifeson
Bass: Geddy Lee
Drums: Neil Peart
Keyboards: Jordan Rudess

basically Rush plus a few others.

Vocals - Nils K Rue (Pagan's Mind)
Guitar - John Schaffer (Iced Earth)
Guitar - John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Keyboard - Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater)
Bass - Mike LePond (Symphony X)
Drums - Jason Rullo (Symphony X)

Yeah yeah! But that's just one lineup I would pick. Schaffer for his tank rhythms, Petrucci for his creative leads, Rudess for his creative keyboard parts, Mike LePond for stability and technical prowess, Rullo cos he's a sickunt, and Nils because he is mad with heavy-ish music.

Internationally:
Vocals - Jorn Lande
Guitar - Chris Broderick
Guitar - Jeff Loomis (one of the reasons I LOVED Nevermore live in Australia was that Loomis and Broderick were on the same stage! Brilliant!)
Bass - <insert here anyone that doesn't suck, it's only a bass player afterall :p> err I will go with Jim Shephard (because I love Sanctuary!)
Drums - Richard Christy

Locally:
Vocals - it's a tie between Danny Cecati and Mr. Michael Zoias!
Guitar - Shane Linfoot (not that I reek of bias, but I believe he kicks ass!)
Guitar - Lord Tim/ Mr. Talan (also a tie)
Bass - Chris Griffin (the best australian bass player I have seen until now)
Drums - The Shriffmeister.

In other words, I think that the TM boys own!

Vocals - Nils K Rue (Pagan's Mind)
Guitar - John Schaffer (Iced Earth)
Guitar - John Petrucci (Dream Theater)
Keyboard - Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater)
Bass - Mike LePond (Symphony X)
Drums - Jason Rullo (Symphony X)

I would cream over that lineup. It would own.

Vocals - Midnight
Guitar - Chuck Schuldiner (Would love to hear Midnight sing some Control Denied stuff)
Guitar - Jorn Viggo (Pagans Mind dude. Seriously one of my favourite guitarists ever! Very underrated)
Bass - Leif Edling (Well he writes the riffs in Candlemass so mainly for
songwriting)
Drums - John Macaluso (ARK drummer)

I'm going to go for a quite unusual project which I think would be interesting to see/hear:

Vocals - Kristoffer Rygg (Ulver)
Guitar - Arjen A. Lucassen (Ayreon)
Guitar - Johan Reinholdz (Andromeda)
Bass - Mike Lepond (Symphony X)
Drums - Neil Peart (Rush)
Keyboards - Ryo Okumoto (Spock's Beard)
Cello - Eicca Toppinen (Apocalyptica)
Violin - Ingvild Johannesen (Ram-Zet)

Cryptor,

What is the best Spocks Beard album to get? I have been meaning to check them out

Ultimate crazy/technical/prog/whatever line-up:
Drums: Virgil Donati
Bass: Tony Levin
Guitar: Buckethead
Keys: Jordan Rudess
Vox: Kelly Carpenter

Ultimate Aussie hard rock line-up:
Drums: Virgil Donati
Bass: Cameron Grant or Scott Owen
Guitar: Doug Steele
Guitar: Brett Garsed
Vocals: John Farnham

The thing about an all-star line-up is thinking how they'd all work together and what kind of results they'd produce. John Petrucci remains my favourite guitarist of all time but I'd never dream of picking him over Slash in a bluesy hard rock outfit for example. Then again it's all just fantasy anyway so who gives a shit I suppose...

Yeah Ferret hit the nail on the head. I was thinking of a band that would write great music together. I can't imagine Arch singing over Chuck riffs or Leif Edling riffs. And both those guys HAD to be in my dream band. Midnights crazy vocals would be amazing over Chuck riffs.

I can't imagine Arch singing for any band besides the early Fates line up. Maybe Dream Theater.
