I'm not sure how to classify this band specifically, but it has been a pretty good learning curve for me to deal with slower tempo rock rather than metal. Previously I have only recorded/engineered my own band, and that was mixed elsewhere. The band's name is All Cretans Are Liars from my city (Wellington, New Zealand).

Structures of their songs are a little strange but here is one of the songs I am currently mixing:

This forum has taught me heaps since I have joined and I'm finally starting to record more often...I'll be doing some metal soon so I'll share when that's done!

Any feedback appreciated. I think there are some issues with the vocals but the mic we used wasn't that great...

wow, for your first band recorded/engineered (besides your own) this mix is pretty awesome. everything is pretty even. i would probably turn the vocals down a tad, but other than that nice job. i like the prominent bass. how long have you been engineering?

Cheers man, I've been engineering stuff for around a year now. I used to do some very simple recording here and there (very primitive) since a couple of years back but I've started to get more into it.

Definitely agree with the vocals though, they are a bit uneven at parts.

If anyone's interested, I did a mix session with them and semi-finished all 4 songs I recorded for them:

Drums are a mix of real drums and slate samples (snare is Snare 4z1 and kick is Kick 1z1), Toms are a blend of real toms and QikToms 1, 3 and 4

Guitars are Fender Telecaster into Mesa Single Rec (was quite awful) into Awesometime impulse

Bass is DI blend of Dirty Ampeg SVX tone and a clean SVX tone.

Would love some feedback :)
