In general I'm not a huge fan of prog but I listened to The Odyssey after a friend recomendation because I was curious to know what a 25 minute song was like. I liked it quite well. I haven't purchased the album yet. Will probably do in a few weeks. Was it released on vinyl/pic disk?
:D

Awesome! Glad you liked it!

I don't believe it was released on any other medium than cd.

Its their least prog cd. Its my 4th favorite of their discs. Doesnt mean that it has some absolutely brilliant songs on it though...like Awakenings, Accolade II, Wicked, and King of Terrors

I am not a fan of the song The Odyssey though. It goes on too long for me and the orchestration is too much, a little is fine, but on the song there is too much imo

And from a fan of Symphony X, The Odyssey is an awesome record. Every song is killer. I love hearing the little hints of past songs.

If you're familiar with the story, you can really feel the movements. Even if you're not, it's still an awesome song. I love when he sings "I miss the rolling hills of Ithaca". AWESOME!

It put me there. I felt Odysseus' longing to be home like I never had from reading.

If they keep it up, I think they'll surely be known as the symphonic/heavy/progressive/neo-classical metal band that created a whole new genre.
