Have you ever spent too much time on a track that you actually don't know anymore if it sounds good or not ? If so, what do you do ? Take time off ?
Compare it with some "good-sounding" records ? I'm at a loss...

Here's the first version of the song (posted here a couple of weeks ago) : v.1
Here's the second version of the song (new mix and new master) : v.2

So, basically, I need either some sort of validation (yeah I know...) or some pointers to guide me some other way... Please ? :)

Thanks everyone :)

Your def going the right way the second one sounds 10x better!!

Best thing to do when you get like were you are is to walk away for a day or so and come back fresh and always reference your music. Its real easy to get used to a sound and think it sounds great!!

But hey its sounding nice though so whatever your doing is working:rock:

V2 sounds TEN times better indeed!

And yes, i know what you mean... i useally stick to the track, because once i quit a track or a mix for a while, i find it very hard to continue that track after a long pause for some reason... so i stick with it for as long as i can!

Thanks guys... Have you ever been so frustrated by working so long, that you decided to take away all the plugins, and start from scratch again ? Does it work ? :)

Nah... most of the time my first try seems to be the best try... if i start altering like crazy after a rough mix, it useally goes downhill and i have to load the last file again...

Hi!

My advice would be to change the environment in which you are listening to the mix.

Just pick an iPod, and go take a walk, go driving your car, whatever. And listen to the song away from the same spot on the desk. It really gives you fresh ears.

And in addition, if you want to A/B-ing with some other famous mixes make a playlist of four, five songs in a row and add you song as the last. Your ears will adjust to the quality professional mixes and if your song will pop up as a bad mix you'll notice. And even if not so drastic, you'll realize more quickly if the drums need to be mixed differently, or the guitars, etc...

Just remind to take a bloc notes and a pen to take note of everything that comes to mind (bass neeed more eq in low frequencies, lower that snare...)
