yeah, so i've read about the cost estimates for the Katrina crap. the latest are saying it will "cost the federal government as much as two wars". what i don't understand is why the federal government (from here on, to be understood as "American taxpayers") has to pay for any of this. especially the possible rebuilding of New Orleans and other ravaged areas.

am i understanding it correctly that America has trade and budget deficits in the trillions and billions respectively? so where is this money coming from? the way i see it, my child and his children will be paying the Iraq bullshit and now they will have to front the bills for *this* debacle.

can someone elighten me? why arent any media outlets writing stories like, "uhhh, we dont actually *have* any money!"?

thanks

thats what im starting to realize. i mean, we are already 6 trillion in the hole. whats a hundred billion more?

well what else would you suggest, abandoning new orleans altogether?
why not? seriously.
there have been many a city destroyed by thoughtless planning. they just didnt happen to enjoy exisiting in a period of unending government spending.
no city should ever exist where new orleans did. thats just common sense.
whats your suggestion?

rebuild because i'd still like to make it to mardi gras someday so i can see some titties and get stabbed.

been there, done that ... that area where all this happens is still in one piece btw ... there will be titties and beads for sure.

Did anyone ever see that Man Show episode where they took the stripper chicks down to Mardi Gras and stuck fake bushes of hair on their nipples? The look on guys faces as the chicks lifted their shirts....priceless.

sure good point, but what about the millions of people displaced by the hurricane? where are they going to go? whose cities are they going to invade? if they don't receive any government relief now how many more years will they be a burden to the system?

because it doesn't even matter because the money is all fictional and nonexistent at this point

every capitalist country is a billion trillion miles in the hole. Most of that debt is to the large corporations/banks, and a little bit is to other countries. It's a fact of life.

according to stats i've come across, a very very large proportion of new orleans residents (and LA residents as a whole) have already been a burden to the system for many many years. according to one source, LA is the second poorest state in the nation. i don't know why. the deep south has always been, to some degree, an utter failure. anyway, i'm meandering.
i was just hoping someone could shed some light on why it is just ASSUMED that taxpayers will front the bill for hundreds upon hundreds of billions of dollars for something that was on the verge of collapse anyway (at least 30% of new orleans was under the poverty level; the entire economy was based on tourism and gambling).
to answer your question: if i were a displaced resident of a ruined city i would take it upon myself to assimilate into another city and get a job. start anew. isnt that what mexicans do every day? without complaint? from what i've seen, hundreds of thousands of "entitled americans" are content to just sit in a shelter until the local and federal governments bail them out....again.

yeah i understand your point exactly, i certainly don't want my tax dollars going to help somebody just sitting on their ass in a shelter, but until i see some sort of breakdown of who and what exactly the relief money goes to i'll refrain from complaining

So these "refugees"...

As I understand it, these people were placed in random cities across the nation (SEE Texas). These people, for the most part, are uneducated ghetto trash or filthy inbred rednecks. Well, from what I KNOW, these people are being placed in various hotels across the nation (Texas) for FREE, while their kids were simply placed in public schools randomly. Again, these people are TRASH. So these kids were simply placed in a school without a thought of the safety of the current students or staff?

This has reached beyond the point of ludicrous. Most of these people had no jobs to begin with. So what will make them get a job now that everything is simply given to them?

i heard they got a contract, any truth to that? so many republicans talk about "reckless government spending", something i find it hard to categorize much of this administration's expenditures as anything but.
