America's Next War

Hey John,

10mm is a weird cal. I'd stay w/ .40 or .45, just so you dont have to switch to another gun when the zombies come and them ammo is scarce!

yea I know it is a weird Cal, but after talking with some LEO friends of mine they all were in agreement that it might be the best gun around, and they wish they could carry them, plus i like the cost of the gun itself.

I agree with guardian26. The current ammunition situation is dismal, although it's slowly getting better. A Glock 22 or 23 in .40S&W will be much easier and cheaper to feed. Also, you should be able to find them under $600.

Don't know what you exactly ment by 10K for an AR-15, You can find them for $700-$800.

...as powerful as the Glock 10mm. This is the type of handgun you shoot thru engine blocks(front to rear). Great for Home protection.

Errr. No. The first part of that is hype. If the first part was true, the second part would be ludicrous. Any gun that could penetrate front to back through an engine block would be a disaster for home defense. Such a round would go through an intruder, through the living room wall, through your child's head, out the side wall, into your neighbor's house and kill his dog.
10mm pistols are great, but don't go believing everything you hear.

you lose your weapons card j-man? what's wrong with u chief!

I have about 4 friends who just ETS from Korea to Bliss, all got assigned to that new hi speed future weapons training brigade. I thought Hood was biggest US base? I thought Bliss was a tiny little ada/aviation base, my brother did his AIT there for his UAV school

This matter has come up in the Cold Steel Forums. I used your origional quote over there John, so I hope you don't mind. I think anything that raises awareness on this unusually silent subject has to help.

What a F&^ked up situation! I wish you & the family the best, John!
GTFO when you can. I agree with magius on too much firepower for home defense. I have my good ol' reliable Ruger KP94 with 2 16 shot mags filled with the Federal brand Home defense ammo. Would rather pop a round at a raccoon than a human, but wouldn't hesitate one second in your situation. I have a friend in Yuma who is experiencing the same kind of issue. Both him and his folks need to get while the getting is good.

Re: Wars here, and not abroad:

I just read that Karza (sp?) in afghanistan might put a halt to the summer offensive due to his "tribal elders" not feeling safe. There was mention of him even joining the Taliban. Here's an idea, let's GTFO of there, let that country go back to being what it was, (a raging shithole) and protect the borders at home. The downside to that is the waste of human life who fought to make things better there, and not seeing a positive end result. I bet military morale would be better fighting at home than abroad. The US/Mexico situation is completely out of hand, and it appears that neither country is really putting forth a strong enough effort to erradicate the problem.

No problem at all, in fact thanks for reposting it, and letting everyone know it is not just in Laredo, but all along the border. In fact on the Arizona/New Mexico border a rancher(US citizen) was gunned down by drug cartel members, so the govenor of NM dispatched some NM National Guard troops to the area. Did you hear about this in the news NOOOOOOOOOOO, and our government is going to send billions of dollars to Mexico, that will be used to help government officals pay off the cartels to keep them from coming after them and their familes.

All part of the master plan. Agenda 21 anybody?

I heard he was shot, but my understanding is that it was a lone illegal that shot him. The report was that he radioed the ranch to say he was going to give aid to the illegal (probably water) then they lost contact with him.

Of course the perp ran back across the border.

Typical drug cartel tactic. About 14 months ago we had 5 Sheriff's deputies fired on(on the US side of the border) by men dressed in Mexican Army uniforms, luckily none were injured.

Thanks Lara. We have been looking to move for a year or so, just waiting till Rachel finished HS, which is in May, then she is off to college. We are looking in the Austin/Round Rock/Georgetown Texas area, Atlanta Area and the Wake Forrest/Raleigh NC area. Who knows maybe Glenn can hook her up with a job at the hospital he works at hehehehehehe

Austin = Made Of WIN

But you just did all that renovation to the house, that's gonna suck if you bail so soon.......but better that than shot!

Dang John.... I feel for you. I certainly don't mean to sound like a know-it-all as you seem to be much more educated in weapons than I, but for home protection, I would not use anything other than a 12ga pump loaded with 00 buck. I don't know about Texas laws, but if you can saw the barrel legally in order to get a larger pattern spread in a short distance, that is one devastating weapon.
Considering moving to Atlanta ? Great !! You can come visit me out in the country in East Alabama. I am about 100 miles SW from Atlanta in a rural area outside of Auburn. I love the country life and I would have to be dragged from here kicking and screaming. No smog, no traffic and no US borders here. It is Alabama law that must have at least one broken down vehicle in the yard though. I can sell you one of mine cheap if need be.... :)

Yea, we did and are still doing our Home renovations, but one thing it is increasing the home's value, which is a good thing. We have already had a few real estate agents stop by out of the blue, and look at the home, and tell us they could sell it within a week and get our asking price, no problem.
