Amon Amarth finally in US!!!!

I am with Maxim. While I haven't given the album a full listen, What I've already heard is awesome. It sounds like there's some really interesting stuff, not typical of Amon Amarth. Of the more traditional songs, War of the Gods is one of the best AA songs yet!

war of the gods was good but it gets really embarrassing when your songs use the same riff every single time (listen to the first few seconds of war of the gods, then twilight of the thunder god, then valhall awaits me, and slaves of war is pretty close. also the hero and death in fire are super similar too)
Yeah a lot of the time i hate hearing the same riffs over and over again, but with Amon Amarth i am somehow ok with that. As they say, "If it ain't broke don't fix it"

Never change a winning team, that's right. There are some major similarities in the riffs, but it is never throughout the whole song, usually other harmonies and melodies are different. These similarities are actually the most evident in Gods of War Arise, The Hero, and Death in Fire. Do I care? Not at all.

Surtur Rising also has some of the best downtempo AA songs yet. Just listen to The Last Stand of Frej, that's pure beauty right there!

I have now listened to this album several times through. It's the best AA album yet, but totally atypical. Some of the songs actually remind me of DT. The clean riffs in Tocks Taunt are like something out of The Gallery/The Mind's I. The instrumental outro of A Beast Am I is just like the little acoustic extras that Gothenburg bands used to sneak in back in the day (by the day, I mean the earl 90s).

Some of this shit is like nothing I've ever heard before! The swirly riffing in the chorus of Doom Over Dead Man is awesome. The opening riff to Destroyer of the Universe will fucking bulldoze you (actually, it's a bit like Dream Oblivion in that regard).

By far, the best song on the album, and one of the greatest songs ever written (ever) is For Victory or Death. The intro inverts the standard form, with the lead guitar just singing these somewhat melancholy notes while the rhyhtm guitar plays an incredibly bright melody behind it. When the entire song comes to a halt to and that incredible melodic hyper-shred riff comes in, I think you can seed god for a minute.

I'm really happy that I listened to this album, because I haven't felt this good about anything in a long fucking time.
