Just got back from the show in va. Jaxx couldn't get things right with Into Eternity, problems with both guitars and the drums, causing their set to be shortened (I was quite pissed). Beyond the Embrace were alright, and as for Amorphis, they put on a great show. Very pleased with the set list (Drowned Maid :)), and Tomi Koivusaan broke about 4 strings throughout the set. All in all a great show, and hopefully next time around Jaxx won't fuck up Into Eternity.

I was surprised at how good Amorphis was. I'm a fan of their last three CDs. Never really heard their older, Death stuff. So, I was disappointed when Pasi left the band, and I learned that they would be a lot of old stuff. However, they kicked ass. Hell, a mosh pit broke out to "Day of Your Belief". The new singer's voice took some getting used to on the clean parts, but I have to say, I really grew to like his style. As for the Death vox, the dude has got an evil set of pipes.

We unfortunately missed Beyond the Embrace, because they went on 1st, so that Single Bullet Theiry could go on 3rd. I wasn't happy about this, as I really enjoy BtE live.

Into Eternity was not good... let's leave it at that.

Looking forward to tonight's Atlanta show-- sad but not surprised to see only one ancient song on the set list-- should be a much more different show than when I saw them on the Thousand Lake's tour...

At Pittsburgh, Beyond the Embrace walked away with the show. Killer once again.

As for all of this Into Eternity worship..I don't get it. They were actually fucking terrible. I mean horrible. My girlfriend and I had to retire to the bar because it was just a display of "too much is never enough" added to a CONTINUAL scream from the singer. Rated as one of the worst live shows I've seen.

Amorphis. Well, I look at it this way: you either take steps forward or you take steps back. They land an EMI deal in Europe off of the strength of Am Universam and Tuenela. they release the new cd, and they get a new singer that can't sing the stuff they got signed for. Brilliant. You know, on Relapse, Amorphis is sort of a band without a home. There's very few bands on the label to tour with. They're doing something that's rarely promoted in the mainstream by Relapse and yet they take this step to ensure that they'll be off EMI and relegated to such a label as Relapse. It just isn't smart. You either are where you were, and in their case it wasn't far, or you are where you are. They've elected to step back into the obscurity of the early years. Disappointing.

I've seen them 3 times, but was still sorry I missed their performance.

I have to agree. They're just not a good live band. Hands down, the worst vocal performance I've ever heard out of the 300/400 bands I've seen live.

Interesting points. However, before you condemn them, I think you have to give them the chance to record their next CD. No one can say for sure whether the next disc will be a step back or a step forward.

Yes, I certainly will give them a chance. I'm just not going in with high hopes based on what I saw. I'm hearing Amorphis but I'm seeing Sepultura on the mic. Finnish bands always receive the benefit of the doubt when I'm buying though! :)

Into Eternity was incredible at progpower, they were really dissapointing this time around. Not much on their new singer, and he attempted to do all the parts, as opposed to the three vocalist approach. And the whole 10 minute techincal difficulty bs that caused their set shortened with the guitars and drums, it was just such a mess. For a band that has 3 beautiful albums, and an equally great Progpower performance under their belt, I hope they can put themselves together. If you can't pull off your songs live, you're destined to fail.

Amorphis put on a great show. I didnt think they would play anything from Tales, and was surprised they played at least 3 songs. You can obviously tell Tomi prefers the original Amorphis just by his vocal approach. Although I love Pasi's voice, Tomi did a great job, unlike the new singer for IE. He could actually pull off doing clean and death vocals, haha.

Incredible? Really? I love IE on disc and was real psyched to see them at PP. However, they did little for me. I liked the vocals. However, the music struck me as sloppy. They also don't have much energy on stage.

I thought Into Eternity was terrible. I thought the same thing when I saw them with their old line up too.

Amorphis was pretty good. It really got on my nerves that it wasn't Pasi singing but oh well. The guy did a great job on the death metal vocals. The clean vocals were ok but I prefer Pasi. I thought they butchered the song Alone. I am having a feeling that the next Amorphis album will have a lot of death vocals.

I would have loved to have seen that as well.

Given that "Far From the Sun" did so little for me, I can't say I was heavily anticipating the next CD. However, after the show on Monday, I'm real curious.

I'll also be interested in seeing what a new album will have in store for us. I agree with Woosta. You are either going forward or going backwards. Based on seeing them once with the new guy, my overall impression is that he is not a very strong natural singer. Death Metal vox, definitely. Stuff off of Tuonela...well let's just say there was room for improvement. Cracking on notes live (repeatedly) is not a good sign of things to come. But then again, he just could of had an off night. I'll definitely be looking forward to an album of new material.

Still though, Tomi and Esa from Amorphis have cumulatively one of the best guitar tones I have ever heard, and their playing is downright orgasmic, IMO. :worship:

The best thing Amorphis can do is go backwards. Far, far backwards, you know, when they were good.

:erk:

You don't like newer Amorphis?!? Well...you, you know...you, you, son of a BITCH! 'Why don't you just go and die?' :Spin:

That's cool, dude. To each their own. I won't go and throw a bitch fit like some others when you don't like their favorite band. :D

"You don't like ________? Well, what DO you like?" :loco: *inside thing*

I like the middle range of Amorphis' catalog, specifically Elegy (one of the best EVER) and Tuonela. Pasi was a great singer but he wasn't into it any more and he sounds like shit on FFTS. We'll see what happens.

Not sure if this has been announced elsewhere or not, or if it is truly confirmed (it's a sad step to take), but Into Eternity will probably have to drop off the Amorphis tour due to illness. Pneumonia, strep throat.....

They went to hospital here during the day, before the show, but from what they told us (WREKage radio crew), it looked like they'd have to go back to Canada for medical attention. They had been slated to drop by our studio after the show, but cancelled, understandably so. :(

They had to play short-handed, too. I give 'em full credit for trying.
