Amott leaves ESP

They do have a great feeling to them. I'd love to find out more about them, to be honest, but I just can't find anything at all. There's something about my Fernandes that's different to anything else I've ever played. If it's not that they're made with really nice, resonant woods, I'm thinking the body may be chambered, because it just sings. I'd love to get my hands on a Japanese custom, but my local Fernandes dealer doesn't even really know if they exist in this country.

Do you have any Japanese Fernandes' (Fernandi?), Andy?

EDIT: Forgot to add that I think if Ammott doesn't go the Washburn route cos of the Randall endorsement, I think he'll go for a predominantly Japanese company, like Caparison (like Chris), or even Fernandes, maybe Jackson. For some reason, I can't see him playing USA made instruments, and I have no reason to think that, but whatever, just the vibe I get off him.

Agreed. Plus, they get the Eric Peterson stamp of approval...

Jeff

There was a dark pic of Eric on a Testament album sleeve back in the day that showed the top/back half of what looked like a LP, and I always thought he played a Les Paul. But then I see him playing this. Has Eric been playing these all along? Man, I've been wanting a lefty version of this guitar for a long time! I think I saw the new dude in Cannibal Corpse playing one too. My vote is for Wasburn as well, just cause of the Randall deal. FWIW, the Ammot bros smoke as lead players. I don't hear a damn thing wrong with the leads.

he goes to Rico. 10 bucks.

Thats RICO.. not BC RICH.

Rico has no distribution which would really be a big downgrade from ESP. Rico doesn't even have a very good website! Plus, all their guitars scream LAWLZ I'M METULLZ and lack the class and understated elegance of any guitar he has ever been seen with.

yeah bro. I just felt like saying Rico cuz nobody else did.

Dont hate too bad, though. Gary Holt's got em... haha

also. Isnt pretty much anything gonna be a downgrade from getting an ESP sig? I mean jackson is no more... Ive never cared for Ibanez... and Washburn and Dean, regardless of how many people they're grabbing.. still... they just dont have that mystique... maybe he goes to Parker or PRS or Gibson, etc etc etc etc...

Jed Simon also has a pretty cool Rico model - but overall I think that their guitars are very niche oriented, overpriced, and tacky.

I think Dean has the mystique actually, and they made a killer model for Rusty Cooley recently. Ibanez has made some great things in the past but always manages to fuck something up with each design. Washburn was never cool, Dime went back to Dean as soon as he could. Jackson needs to get over their alder wood obsession, it sounds horrible! They also need to learn about quality control. Fernandes has ceased to make anything interesting, although they could still be revived from near-death by somebody as cool as Mike Amott.

Right now I think ESP and Schecter are making the best mass production guitars on the market, and Dean is stepping things up. I could definitely see Mike Amott with a classic Dean V, it would suit him really well. But Andy says we're all wrong...

maybe he goes to Parker or PRS or Gibson, etc etc etc etc...

HAahahahahahahaha, Mike Amott playing a Parker, good god is that a nauseating image. My friend has a Parker Fly, one of the really nice neck-thru ones with piezos and a carbon fiber fretboard - it plays amazingly, is fantastically built, yadda yadda yadda - but it is still SO FUCKING UGLY YE GODS. Well, ok, I guess the Fly guitars are...tolerable, but their acoustics and especially their basses, I can't wrap my mind around what monstrosities those are. Ken Parker must be one weird dude...
