hmmm,

i am in the market for a guitar head/cab. my jobs have been consistently scenecore and so far the mixing engineers we use have really enjoyed the material i track.

so here is what i am looking for. i don't really care too much about "monster" tone... because so far (for me) that can be accomplished in post.

what i am looking for is -detail- ...i was told that soldano has remarkable detail.

i have said before... i am very new to the world of metal-production so please forgive my newbie shtick.

i have money so... if you can, recommend some boutique heads if they qualify!

also, cab! i am not too concerned about the cab but i thought it would look nice to have a nice combination that the talent can rehearse with... (so i don't have to open pt every time they want to play).

i think that's about it... uhhhhh yah!

5150 + mesa os... but seriously! The Mesa OS is an immense cab. It'll last you forever and produce quality day in day out. As for the amp. It all depends. The 5150 is the go to, and it can be quite distinct etc. But if you want more, i don't know, maybe precision out of the notes etc, possibly an Engl? Also, maybe try a Framus Cobra, very amazing middle ground between a 5150 and Recto. Great amp IMO :) Ola just put up a clip of his new one :)

awesome man! ...thanks!

i will be testing out the rec and the peavey tomorrow. i like the slo100 by soldano, so far. i have heard the 5150 sound quite a bit in some of the demos that were sent over. it's a pretty huge sound.

i have heard of engl and framus... i will be sure to check those out too!

once again, thanks man!

i guess it also depends on cash too man! as for the soldano, the 5150 is based on it, but is also higher gain etc. The Soldano is great, but still more of a hard rock amp and may not have enough gain for metal etc

not the most original, but tubescreamer+ 5150 + mesa os will give you a great tone for metal.

5150->mesa cab will get the most use for metal.

5150's are the most common amp on metal albums by far. I really wouldnt recommend anything other than a 5150 or dual rectifier as your first amp for this purpose as they can be used so much. dual recto would have more clean/midgain options than the 5150.

5150 cleans are horrible, IMO. Mesa all the way for cleans.

i'm not really worried about the clean tone... i have egnater/orange/fender/bogner. none of those use high gain like the amps y'all mentioned.

seems like the peavey is a winner. they are pretty cheap from what i have seen.

based on their price, i might go for two amps and one cab... (mesa seems to dominate the cabs on this thread).

i really trust what y'all are telling me... so thank you, it is most appreciated!

mesa AND 5150s cleans suck donkey balls. I'd sooner use pod farm than to try and coax anything resembling a clean sound out of either of those.
thats what an ac30 is for.

ya know, it's interesting... i had a vox ac30 and it was never used, so i sold it.

i'm curious, is this a popular amp used in metal? because i have seen/heard it more in "indie/alternative" recordings. it has a funny characteristic in my opinion but every time i attemted to track a guitarist with the ac30, they shared the same distaste i had for the amp.

but, moving forward... it seems interesting that the more i fall into the "metal-pit" i hear people saying that the ac30 is a staple.

is that strange?

probably not popular with most of the guys on this forum.
but i love it.
But then I do more Punk/Hardcore then metal these days fortunately.
a jazzmaster or telecaster into a cranked ac30 is one of the most satisfying and angry tones you can possibly get.

i feel this way about the bogner alchemist. my manager is working with chauncey from cardboard city... and he told me that justin beck of glassjaw is using an alchemist and line 6 on the new glassjaw record. from what i have heard so far, that tone is massive.

From my experience with a Dual Recto and Mark IV, the Mesas cleans are much better than Peavey cleans. Mark IV being better than Recto. IV is much more versatile in the tones you can get out of each channel as well. Pretty shimmering but I haven't really tried out too many "clean" amps.....

yeah. the rectumfrier poorly imitates clean less appallingly than the 5150. But then the 5150 doesnt have a clean channel. In fact i can't see the word clean written on it anywhere. Still love it for dirty
