Amps, power and vulnerability

Hey guys.

Quick question here.
I've been wondering for a while what can be done, or if anythnig at all anything needs to be done, to protect amps from power surges/ blackouts?

My understanding of electrics is quite basic, but of what i know, I'm pretty sure that the fuse is in place to protect the amp from such things, right?
