And another interesting read.

Anybody venture to say a giant metal band might do this next?

Actually, I wasn't referring to them.... someone who has been around a little longer, and has had influence on many more.

Now, that you mentioned it: Slayer has only one record left with Rubin. But they're not the kinda band I could picture doing that. I think they'll probably have retired when these new ways of distribution really start to go off.

I was thinking for a second if you're maybe talking about Testament, but they just signed to Nuclear Blast recently.

So, who else is around there... Maiden, Priest... Essenfuckin'Ess? :headbang:

Because the world really needs *more* reasons to wish Dio would make another album with Sabbath...

*huddles in the corner... 'It goes on, and on, and on.... Heaven and Hell...'*

No need to huddle in a corner when you sing that shit, brother! SAY IT LOUD!!!:headbang::headbang::headbang:

And I for one, would welcome another Black Sabbath with Dio album. IMHO, they have never disappointed yet.:headbang::headbang::headbang:

interesting.
That is a strong message and a wake up call to record labels. 8$ x 1.200000=9600000. About ten million. If they are five in the band it goes like 2 million each dude, or more like a million six or seven hundred after costs. If they tour, they can make enough money of the tour to cover for the cost of the tour and some more. Keep in mid that it is after only one week, it will sell more soon.

However, this kinda of distributing won't work for small bands who need promotion. I think now record labels won't rely on big bands anymore, but on promoting indie bands which after 4 or 5 albums and getting their name around will do the same thing as radiohead and make more money of THEIR own music, to which they own the rights.

Steve, what are your thoughts on the radiohead approach to selling music? would you ever consider doing it this way?

for your amusement, enslaved FTW, found this on seven string forum:
The Norwegian party Venstre (socialist liberal) has proposed that all illegal file sharing should be legalized. They haven’t put much thought behind the populist proposal and the rationale is basically that since the music is there people should be allowed to consume it freely...

So, in response to this the Norwegian metal band ENSLAVED took a cab out to the Venstre party leader’s farm (he happens to be a sheep farmer) and "downloaded a sheep" with the same kind of motivation: free roaming sheep are available and should be consumed! The sheep was then brought back to the Norwegian parliament, quite an effective statement."

Metalgutter stjal Sponheims sau - Side2

the link above also features a video of the band taking the sheep, and walking it around Oslo, it's all in Norwegian, but the video is hilarious.

Okay, so who has actually listened to the Radiohead? I feel like a twit for not having done it yet...

Jeff

(Raises hand) Yep. I bought it. And I think it's one of the best since OK Computer in some respects(songwriting and arrangements), and experimental (as they usually are) as well.:headbang::headbang::headbang:

Paul, I'll get back to you on your posts soon.:headbang::headbang::headbang:
