So - this is indeed the picture that proves once and for all, you can never have enough guitars and amps. I always knew that Joe Bonamassa had a thing for guitars, but until I recently saw this picture I thought we were talking like in the 10 - 20 range, but boy was I wrong.

He also recently added that beautiful 1959 burst to his stable and it sounds absolutely heavenly. While many would think he is crazy bringing it our on the road with him, as it probably cost in the quarter to a half million dollars (possibly even more on the vintage market), he plays it at almost every show as he thinks guitars are meant to be played, not as framed pieces of memorabilia on a wall.

Joe with his amps and guitars: :OMG:

Joe with the 1959 Les Paul (damn does that sound sweet):

Honey, if you are reading this, I know what I want for Christmas, do you have a few organs to spare for the black market so I can put a down payment on it?

nice, not a single jcm (i see two silver jubilees but fuck those diode clipping shits), recto, 5150, framus, engl, diezel, jvm, zero, zilch, nada...

and the only good guitar is on him in that picture hehe, the rest are all retirement home decorum.

(of course this is just me channeling the metal retard in me, but ya know what, fuck that weak shit!)

Haters gonna hate. Though I agree, I couldn't give half a shit for 90% of the stuff in that pick.

+1 to every word of this, and  at the bold part haha

Wow, that's a huge collection! But honestly, that's what it looks like when I walk into any guitar center, and I easily pass all that stuff and couldn't care less about it. lol. I wouldn't mind having some of those les paul gold-tops or sunbursts tho. Pretty cool collection nonetheless. And I agree, I'm surprised no Boogie or Peavey. Of course, he is a blues guy, so no room for a 'metal' amp I suppose. Haha.

I wish there was a book of all the famous players with their guitar/amp collection behind them like this. Like being able to see all of James Hetfield's guitars, Hammets, Mustaine, Yngwie, Petrucci, Slash, Zakk Wylde's, etc etc.

Yngwies collection is like millions of the same guitar:

Love how he just throws them about.

Man, he's such a pretentious dick. Someone needs to make a GPS (Guitar Protective Services) and go in and take "custody" of all of those axes and give them to a better home -- someplace where they won't be abused and neglected, and actually someplace that appreciates them.

I'll be seeing him later this year :D Amazing guitarist, and not a bad singer either. Seems like a pretty down to earth guy too.

While I'm all for the book of artists and their amp collections the unfortunate problem as proven in this thread is that if it was of most metal players, the collections would be very limited indeed in the opposite way in which some are (admittedly so probably half jokingly) harping on Joe's collection not containing any "metal" amps, most of the suggested metal players collections would be mostly modern amps, probably somewhat limited by whomever their sponsor of the day was, with very little history attached to them. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE metal with a big old L, but I also love instruments with a story, my favorite magazine is Vintage Guitar simply because I love reading about the provenance of peoples instruments, the ins and outs of the various small and large manufacturers history and such.

Seeing a guys standing in front of a 2010 Peavey or a 2011 Rectifier with their Jackson V or BC Rich Warlock maybe metal as fuck, but it's pretty boring when it comes to the back story of it all. I guarantee almost every amp and guitar in that picture above has a story attached to it, perhaps a boring one in some cases, but still some sort of little thing that makes it interesting.

As for Joe himself, I understand he may not be everybody's cup of tea, over hyped, over advertised, ... , but the man is one hell of a guitarist that I'm pretty sure has the capability to excel at any genre he chooses. Some call him a "blues" guitarist, but I tend to think of him as more of a rock guitarist that plays around the edges of almost every genre associated with rock. I actually think he feels limited by the "blues" tag associated with him and has told the purists as such as often as possible. Personally I find him to be a very inspirational player in the same way I look at Mark Tremonti (another player I think can excel at any genre and that I appreciate the versatility in his playing), but as always individual mileage may vary.

Ps - He does indeed now have some more "metal"-like amps in his collection in the two JCM 2000 DSL 100 watt amps he is using for Black Country Communion, not a Peavey or Boogie, but it sounded great when I saw BCC last Friday. He plays them cranked as loud as they go but uses that plexiglass shield to cut that direct blast in the face loudness and it really helps with the venues, allowing him to play loud even in smaller venues where cranked 100 watt heads would be overkill. His BCC rig is much more simplified than his solo touring rig - he is using 2x JCM 2000 DSL 100 heads and 1x 88' Black Jubilee Head with 3x custom 4x12s as seen in this picture:

Another BCC gear note: I loved the sound of the rig Glenn Hughes is using live - it's a Laney Nexus Tube 400 watt head into a Laney 8x10 cab and it sounded great.

Jimmy Page had to count all his guitars once because of the insurance, and he said that he was shocked
than he and the guys who helped him realized that he owns about 1,500 guitars.
That's no typo, not like Metallica who own like 450 guitars and basses for the whole band, one guy-1,500 guitars!

And I've red that Neil Young owns lots of old fender amps (like 100) because he always wants that sound, and he
wants to keep the old parts if something breaks.
