Andy how's the krankenstein?

Adding nothing to the conversation whatsoever, all I gotta say is... we used my ENGL SE on the recording of my band Down Factor's new record "Murder The World", and it totally kicked ass.

Allright, opportunity for a shameless plug over, carry on the discussion ;)

Newsflash for ya buddy, a lot of professional guitarists know very little about tone. You'd be surprised. Dime wasn't the kind of guy who cared about guitar tone, he just wanted to play guitar. The guy used solid state amps for most of his life and said in an interview when he thought of a tube amp, he thought of ZZ Top or AC/DC. The man ruled at guitar, but his knowledge about tone was far from good.

Dude, you sound really, really... I don't know what word to use.

What is knowledge about tone? Can you please educate us ignorant, misinformed buffons? Please?

what a joke.. Dime new exactly what he wanted..a randall amp, furman eq, dean ML guitar with a Lawrence pickup , and mxr 6 band....the guy had his own signature sound that I am sure he really cared about and there was thought in every component....even when he started using other stuff..it was basically a copy of the same rig he started out with..... and he even R&D'd a couple of signature amps....pretty ambitious for a guy that "never cared" about his sound....

just because you feel all warm and fuzzy over your HC accepted amp doesn't mean you have to become an elitest jackass or insult a bunch of pros and knowledgable people that generously share a wealth of recording techniques and studio knowledge.

Tone is totally subjective. I think Dimebag's tone is amazing, but you don't see me playing Randall and Washburn, MXR, etc. because of it (although I do have a Dimebag wah which is the best wah ever IMO.) I have a sound I go for, which I've realized is the 5150 sound for the most part, but that's me.

Dime got great tone doing the opposite of what most of us here do. Passive pickups, solid state amp, etc. I read interviews with him where he went into very specific detail of how they meticulously captured his tone in the studio. If you ever produce a CD that has tone anywhere near as godly as "Far Beyond Driven" then you have made a true achievement. He set a new standard for tightness and attack in guitar tone.

Dimmu's last album was ENGL Savage 120; recorded with 3 overdubs (left, right, center). Some of the lead guitars were an old Marshall JMP from 1972 /w Folkesson-modified preamp.
well it sounds good. i prefer the tone on puritanical though myself.
