I did all those settings but I'm not sure if it made things sound better. Shrug.

Hmm, anyone got it so you can just load it? The graph I made looks exactly the same as that one but don't know if it worked.

And I can see the eq aspects of this plugin, but which are the compressor settings?

There's no EQ aspects... it's a multi-band compressor. I guess you could say it works like an automated EQ, but that would be convoluting it.

You need to keep in mind that the setting has to be relative to your mix. You shouldn't necessarily have the same threshold as Andy, unless your mix is relatively the same volume as his was there.

It won't magically make the guitars sound better, but if used correctly, it will clear up a lot of low-end mud and make way for the bass guitar to cut through. It's more about enhancing the mix than the guitars.

Oh ok, sounds alright. I'm keen to get some easy solutions to make my shit sound good (partly cos I don't know enough yet), shallow that may be...I'll keep this preset in mind.

Maybe not if there are not so much low end in your guitars.
But in this case it simply doesn't work, so it does not make your sound worser.

The setting is to handle to low end without the need to cut the lows with EQ.
So it compresses the lows. Means reduce them only when they are to loud.

Below the "gain"-setting.
Range, Attack, Realease, Threshold
Attack and Release should be clear. "Range" is an unusual way to set the ratio. You do not set the ratio but the gain reduction.
You set the Threshold with the vertical slider.

There's no quick fixes. Patience and study, young padawan :)

True...I'm really not looking to be a hardcore producer mega-super master of things. Like I don't need to know all the little details of everything. I just want to know how to reach a sound I'm personally happy with for my own shit.

Keeping that in mind, I know I do have quite a lot of things to learn...

the settings in the 3 bypassed bands are irrelevent.

Back when I first came to this forum and the world of multi-band compression and many other things was still a mystery, those 3 bands gave me hell, man. I had this really cool C4 setting by Andy, yet had no idea what the C4 was, nor what the setting did.... nor what any of the variables were . Lo and behold, only 1 of the 4 bands was at all relevant.

man I must be going crazy, I always thought it was -0.3 on the gain not 0.3? :ill:
hmmmm............
someone explain,

It doesnt't really matter 0.3dB is not that much.
The actual gain reduction comes from the compressor.
0.3dB is fine correction.

It makes not much sense to copy andys setting exactly 1:1. It should give you the idea to reduce te lows with a frequency selective compressor instead by using EQ. Some slightly different settings will also work. Maybe better on you application.

Of course it is.
If the signal is below threshhold it works as a sort of EQ according to the gain settings of the bands.

... which is why I said it works kind of like an automated EQ, but that there's no real need to confuse things that much, considering that we're dealing with someone relatively new to the whole concept.
