If you were like myself and disappointed in the samples, the album does NOT disappoint!
Just arrived about an hour ago and its really good.

FYI - the Japanese bonus is a just a remix version of Lease of Life, which is good but not really worth it unless you are as equally impatient as me.

wow, i just listened to it and couldn't be more disappointed. If you liked Rebirth & Temple of Shadows, but didn't care for Aurora Consurgens, then you probably won't like this either... it's slower, and no where near as catchy. Based on sales, I think the public feels the same about AC. 150k sales on that compared to 500k for ToS, and 400k for Rebirth. I predict even worse sales for this.

Well you are right there. I did like AC though. It is definately more mellow. I think that is a fair warning. I am kind of a sucker for anythign Kiko does and even love his jazz projects so keep that in mind with my opinion.

If you want something a bit faster/heavier Shaman - Origins ;-)

I liked AC for the most part... didn't love it. Ego Painted Grey was a fantastic song. I just don't here anything remotely as good on this one. Temple Of Shadows was amazing, one of my all time favorite discs.

I agree with you on Kiko, he's amazing, and I love his solo stuff. But that's part of my trouble... this sounds more like his solo stuff with vocals. This is not Angra, at least not the Angra that has been one of my favorite bands for the past decade.

New Shaman is really good, I totally agree with that!! \m/

what funny is "Fullblast" is much heavier than this.
So i guess i should add if you like AC AND you like the mellow stuff on Kiko's solo albums you will "most likely" enjoy this. :)

Aqua is a strong album. It's nowhere near as heavy and fast as ToS, but it has some amazing songwriting. It's Angra's most progressive album to date, that's for sure. I haven't listened to anything else other than that for a few days. I like it way better than Aurora already.

Rage of the Waters is killer!!!

Moreso than "Fireworks" or "Holy Land"? I've been a little concerned reading this thread today, but if you like it, I've got higher expectations all of a sudden.

While I do think "Aurora" is their weakest album, a "weak" Angra album is still better than 90% of the other releases out there for me.......

There are some good things in there... But what the hell is happening to Edu? He seems to be getting worse and worse =/

He hasn't been good live in a while... Now he's not that great in a studio release. :(

I enjoyed it on my first listen. Seems like Kiko's jazz influences are coming through...I agree with Milton that it's very progressive. I'll be buying it.

Temple of Shadows was my #2 CD of 2004, falling just behind The Glorious Burden.* Unfortunately, neither Aurora Consurgens nor Aqua do anything for me. It's quality music, performed by amazing musicians, but lacks the brilliance of Temple of Shadows or the melodic sensibilities of Rebirth. Aqua is one of those releases, that if it was the band's debut, I'd buy it. However, as it's their seventh disc, I'll simply pass and reach for one of their better discs when I'm in an Angra kind of mood.

* If I was redoing my Top 10 of 2004, Temple of Shadows would actually be 4th, behind Tad Morose's Modus Vivendi and Pyramaze's Melancholy Beast.

Aqua is better than it should be. Glad it isn't just wall to wall power metal crap.

Uh, Angra has *never* been wall to wall power metal crap, my friend. I find it that anyone who actually thinks that about Angra (not because I'm a fan, but because of common sense), must really have a serious problem.
