Angra - Aqua

Fireworks, maybe? My memory's fuzzy on that one.

No, Angra's always been more talented than just being a dumb power metal band.

I just saw your reply, Ben. I had posted that before you posted yours, as you can see.

Fireworks wasn't wall to wall power metal. It was a rather different album than the previous two, much more direct but at the same time with different influences.

And you're right. As a matter of fact, Angra is more talented than 95% of the power metal bands.

I've had this one for a week or so now, and have had time to digest it. I hated it the first time I played it, but with each spin it really started to sink in. It's probably Angra's most truly progressive album, and reminds me a lot of Holy Land.

The most power-metal album from Angra is Rebirth, and it's way above the average. I'm tentatively looking forward to Aqua (haven't heard anything of it yet). Aurora was a snoozefest, but I'm encouraged by those saying Aqua is a very progressive album.

After my first listen, I'm not overly impressed. It's not bad, but nothing really stuck out to me. I've heard this album is a grower though, so I'll give it a couple more listens before actually judging it.

HOLY SHIT

are these shirts actually printed? ill totally wear one at the nokia! hahahahha

i gave it a few spins, its pretty good. however not as good as temple.

i think angra and probably maybe pagans mind are my guilty prog pleasures. they still have that power sound with the occasional math lesson that i can live with :)

Kiko louriero or however you spell his name, is an abusolute BEAST of a guitarist. now a kiko vs romeo battle would be way tougher than a loomis vs romeo one! hahaha

I think Kiko Loureiro (all bias aside) is a more versatile and complete guitarist than Michael Romeo. If you compare both their careers, you will notice that Kiko has explored way more ground than Romeo has. I haven't seen Romeo do a lot of stuff that's a bit far from the style that Symphony X plays. The same can't be said about Kiko. However, I'm by no means am saying that Romeo is not a good guitarist, he's definitely among the top metal players of the world, but still a tad below Kiko in my opinion.

Camden, have you checked Kiko's solo records (Fullblast, Universo Inverso and No Gravity)? I think every guitarist in the world should have these in their CD collection.

HAHA totally man! and yes i have no gravity and its a masterpiece of shred.

He also just looks more fluid and flawless with both hands than romeo IMHO. I think Michael has more crazy classicall shreddy stuff while kiko is just like ZOMGWTF did he just do?!?!?!?!?!? like this......

If you wear that shirt at Nokia, I will bring you a bottle of the booze of your choice as a gift. That would be awesome. You can find them all over the internet.

As for Kiko, he's always amazing. Every. Single. Time.

And as for AQUA, I am still curious as to what Glenn's opinion on the album is.

HAHAHHAA and the internet search begins.

Ill probably change into it or just start with it. Im afriaid if I wear a "t-shirt" ill get looked at as a joke by some rabid blind guardian fan. Im still trying to get

BUT

Ill figure it out. HAHAHA that would just be to funny to NOT do....

Looking forward to getting this, especially to see what I'd think of it because based on the feedback it could go any direction for me. I almost always agree with AngraRULES, as we have a very similar taste, but I'm thinking it may be like Justin described, which leans towards how I felt about Fireworks. Wasn't too crazy about it at first as a whole album (I liked many of the songs), as it's more straight up rock with progressive elements, but over time it became one of my favorite albums.. it became a sad but memorable and nostalgic last taste of Angra from the original (best) line up. Yet, then again I didn't care for AC.. But yea, Edu has gotten worse. Kiko on the other hand is king of guitarists:) Not just the best metal guitarist (IMO) but a full well rounded musician virtuoso, one with soul, taste, and balance. Every time I hear him play it's like when you're in a roller coaster and it's JUST about to slowly ease into a straight down full speed drop.

Plenty of choices. And that's just one site.

Just got this CD. Still haven't listened. I need to make more time for metal.
