Anime?

Chiba.....
I was wondering how many of you here were into anime?

It's gradually creeping in and sales for manga (japanese graphic novels) are often in the charts.

I think alot of people narrow minded views of anime being "kids stuff" are just quite pathetic, just because it's animated doesn't mean it carries any less of an media based impact.

I would love to see a "kid" watch Ghost in the Shell: Inoccence and understand whats going on or appreciate the fantastic piece of art that it is.

What are your views?

Everything Japanese is getting trendy now a days especially anime. I don't get all this hype because I was raised by Japanese parents in Canada therefore I dont see everything Japanese as a big deal. I loved Anime as a kid, but now I lost interest other than some Hayao Miyazaki's work.

Well American comics are made for young kids but in Japan everyone reads comic books there. The comics there have a wide variety than just the typical superhero ones like Spiderman for example.

I was getting into anime and until I met this someone. She's Japanese-American and full blown anime freak. She would drag me to attend anime club meetings at the university with her. Being a gentleman that I am (was), I attended to her every needs (including her anime and manga obsessions.) Whelp, our somewhat relationship went sour and whenever think about anime, I think of her. :(

I like some of it. There's anime out there that has quite a bit of substance. Grave of the Fireflies comes to mind. I just bought Kai Doh Maru recently. I think it came out a couple years ago but it's new to me. It's an excellent movie about feudal Japan and features a very unique color scheme in the animation.

i fuckin hate anime

Watch Ninja Scroll.

And remember, just like music, the unpopular movies are usually the best.

Ninja Scroll is definetly no pokemon movie or such. Its for adults only and has adult language, graphic scences, and sexual scences.

Yup, Ninja Scroll is a great movie as is Fist of the North Star, Wrath of the Ninja, Macross: Do You Remember Love? and all 7 Miyazaki films (Castle in the Sky, Grave of Fireflies, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Tortoro, Porco-Rosso, Princess Mononokee & Spirited Away). You wanna see a non-anime but Japanese film that will blow you away? Buy the film called Versus, it's easy to find on ebay and is a great action movie and not low budget either.

My favorite anime series is Inuyasha and Transformers, I also like Ranma 1/2.

When it comes to American animated films, the 2 best I've seen in the 2000's are Finding Nemo and Titan A.E.

Why don't you go start your own "I hate anime" thread and stop cluttering up this one.

EDIT: Ninja Scroll kicks ass.

i recently got into anime again after i rented the cowboy bebop movie. thats gotta be the best drawn cartoon in a while

ninja scroll is cool too. how about ninja ressurection? thats even better and more perverse

Flipping through the channels this morning I came across the video for Linkin Park's "Breaking the Habit" which is animated.

Does anyone know who did it? the art looks very similar to that of the one used in Kill Bill Vol. 1

Couldn't tell ya. I try to avoid Linkin Park videos at all costs.

pointless reply....

i dont think a deck of cards is worth making a cartoon about. most of it is for kids and the stuff that isnt is just child porn up skirt crap but cowboy bebop and hellsing were good. most of the Anime movies are great if not in story then in awesome eye candy but i really do hate when they do the cheap and only animate the mouth while the rest of the frame doesnt change

I used to be really into anime. Not so much anymore, mainly because my money goes into buying metal instead of anime. Ironically, I got into metal because of anime. I used to post on an anime forum where there were a couple guys into metal and from which I took recommendations and really got into metal and here I am today. But yeah, I still watch anime or read manga if I can.
