Annette of Nightwish walks off stage!

So what if it's a fake or b.s. reason. She doesn't have to share a private matter if she doesn't want to, but at least she apologized to the fans. That's the real issue.

If it is a private matter, I'd rather that she say that than give a BS reason. Course, we are all speculating as to the reason why, so it is impossible to pass out blame right now.

I hope she figures out whatever problem she's having right now.

I too doubt the smoke and fog machine are the "real" reasons that she left the stage. With that being said, if that's all she wants to say about it, I'll take it at face value. Perhaps it's her way of telling the rest of the world to mind-their-own-fucking-business.

Damn right. People are so god damned self-centered and ungracious towards other people, sometimes I have to take a step back and just shake my head. You know what? "Trying to finish the set" isn't the same as "finishing the set no matter what."

She probably still genuinely feels horrible about not being able to complete the set for whatever reason, and consider the position she put the rest of the band in. I'm sure she doesn't take that lightly. To put blame on her at all for this, being one show out of how many has she done?, seems like a very selfish thing to do. She could have walked off stage just because she's overwhelmed with the touring schedual and how big of an upheaval her new job as lead singer for an internationally acclaimed band is, and while that's not an amazing reason, I sure as shit would completely respect it.

I agree with this. I don't think she's obligated to share anything more than that, however, I think making up some bs crap continues down the unprofessional path.

If the reason she walked off is personal, she should simply say it's personal and leave it at that. She owes no one any more of an explanation than that. However, if she walked off because the smoke got to her, that's just lame. The very definition of being a "professional" is knowing how to handle a situation better than an amateur. And walking off stage because the smoke at a Metal show got to you is amateurish. If they were pumping chemical filled smoke into the venue, she should know enough (as a professional) to pull a tech aside during the first song and have them put an end to it.

I just hope that this doesn't affect the long-term relationship between she and the rest of the band. They went through hell and back post-Tarja and were poised to regain their spot at a top-leading band in the genre. It would suck if Marco and gang had to get again seek a new female lead for the band.

None of our business if this is indeed a private matter. Like others have said, I hope whatever was affecting her can be resolved and she can move on.

My feelings are, this is her job, and when you work, personal life needs to put in the backburner when on stage. I feel bad for her, no matter what it is, but don't step foot on stage in the first place if you are not going to finish the show or if you are not in the right mindset, but like i said, it is a job and fans were left not getting their moneys worth. I would of been pissed, especially since I am broke and if I find the money to go to a show, I better damned well get at least a full set whether they suck or not.

Thank you very much! My thoughts exactly. I don't give a rat's ass if her reasons are personal or if it's the smoke! The point I want to make is, cancellations are becoming a habit for this band. Fans within this genre travel hours to see their favorite bands, so there is no excuse for this type of behavior. If the smoke is getting to her, then drink some water, suck it up and pull through it...sheeze. Quite frankly I'm almost over Nightwish.

Or maybe she happened to kill a panda before the set, and she knew the Chinese mafia that smuggled it in would deal with her after the show....

I did not know that there were roving hoards of Panda's in Brazil or that the Chinese Mafia's influence was so stong in South America!

Because I was thinking that maybe she had got drunk and tagged the big statue of Jesus up on that hill with some krylon and the cops were close on her trail....

I agree 100% with Zod.
If it was something personal, then just say it.
She could simply say, "I am going through a private matter which I do not wish to disclose at this time."

If it truly was the smoke, then I side with, "she should know better how to deal with it" Also, if it were just the smoke, they could turn off the smoke machines, take a 20 minute break, and come back. Or even ask folks to put out their smokes. I am sure folks would have obliged.

Well, maybe if it was the smoke, and it got to her THAT much, her voice would not have recovered that night.

Anyhow, it does not hold well for the band, who has gone through enough drama in recent times.

Just like anything, in a couple months, most of us will forget about this, unless she is no longer in the band, and we will refer to this as the "Beginning of the end"

Where's the [Sisters of Mercy] photos?

:Smokedev:

Didn't even try to get any. I assumed -- wrongly -- that cameras were not permitted inside, and they were...even D-SLRs. But the fog was so thick, that anyone using flash was doomed to get an amazing photo of...uh...flash-lit smoke. Anyone not using flash was doomed to get some hazy, amorphous (ahem) blob of color against a backdrop of...fog.

Which is all a part of Andrew Eldritch's plan.

In fairness, I think they were using CO2 fog, not chemical, as I did not experience any respiratory problems at all. Still, their Richmond show a few days prior was cut short by the Fire Marshal because -- yep -- the smoke alarms kept going off.

sorry to see and hear.

i have to kinda agree with those that you do your job though and overcome. i think its owed to the fans to deliver when promised to do so. if something is this bad and troubling, i think it should not have been handled and displayed mid-show.

that said, whats done is done. couldve been handled better imo, but nobody can really suppress or forget such deep seeded emotional and mental strain...and, while not a fan of anette, i have to keep my faith that the reasonable would be extremely acceptable to everyone for nightwish to, (for lack of a better work) be "ok" with what happened.

i think when we find out what the deal is, if we do...most will sit back and say "oh i completely understand"

Thanks to blabbermouth:

Speaking to O Povo Online about the incident, Tuomas said, "[Anette] freaked out because she couldn't handle the different mannerisms of the fans here. There were a lot of people screaming the former vocalist's name, making obscene gestures (with the middle finger). Normally she can shake that stuff off, she has good self-esteem, but it's been hard to deal with the fans and the critics. I guess it was a sudden breakdown; she just... lost her mind for a second. It's kind of scary, and we all feel for her and understand what she is going through. We hope she can put her mind at ease and make the rest of the shows. So far it's been fine; she's feeling much better."

I guess that's why they saved South America for last..

Oh. My. God.

God forgive me for saying this as a Nightwish fan, but If this is true, people will lose respect for Anette.

I cannot blame them.

Bruce Dickinson and Iron Maiden got pelted with eggs and other objects from Sharon's goons at OzzFest. Maiden finished the show. Hell, a pipe bomb blew up in Madison Square Garden in 1986. Bruce Dickinson threatened to walk out. Maiden finished the show.

Tarja Turunen was sexually assaulted by a fan ON STAGE in Mexico. She STILL came back and finished the show. I have to give her at least that. And, if she did not, who would have blamed her?

Anette walked off because people were giving her the finger and yelling "Tarja"? You must be kidding me? I've seen Toni Kakko, Timo Kotipelto, even Kahn being given the finger from time to time. They never walked off. Michael Schenker went on stage several times smelling like a Courvoisier plant, sometimes even carrying the bottle, falling down fully crocked. Yet as bad as he sounded, he always tried to finish the show.

Sorry, Anette. Nightwish is not some bullshit cover band like Alyson Avenue. You are in the big leagues now. You need to develop some thick skin, or you will be run out.

I cannot defend her on something like this.

Yeah last night the Horna singer kept giving me the middle finger, got in my face and screamed, and got in the crowd and pushed me.

You think I walked out? No. I stayed and enjoyed the rest of the show. lol :p

You take Nightwish matters WAAAYYYY too personally and seriously.
