Norwegian black metallers 1349 have issued the following statement:

"Due to delays in the processing of the visa application to enter the USA, 1349 will unfortunately have to cancel their appearance at the Death In The Forest festival, scheduled to find place tomorrow (May 20) in New York. We've done everything in our power and have followed every procedure to make this happen, and this matter is out of our hands. It is with great dissapointment that we have to announce this, and we share with the fans the frustration this causes — this is mutual from our side."

this announcement a day before? shady biz ...

Richmond, VA-based doom/death band WITHERSOUL have issued the following statement:

"As much as we hate to do this, WITHERSOUL has cancelled from being on the Death in the Forest festival [set to take place May 20 at the Avalon in New York City]. We've talked to TJ [Morris, festival organizer] and informed him of our cancellation. We can't risk driving 400-plus miles each way for a festival that has been teetering on the edge of cancellation and constant replacements all week long. Also the fact we have no hotel reservations (plus we'd not be able to afford anything inside NYC either). Not to mention to have all those bands two stages for a 20-minute set isn't a good thing for a band that plays 10+ minute songs. This trip alone would have cost us well over 1,000 dollars all together at its current location. We have very set and limited finances and we can't risk coming up all that way for very little. If this would have happened a week earlier, something could have been arranged. We are all seriously bummed out over this, and have been looking forward to this for almost six months now...

"We hope everything goes well for TJ Morris and Watchers Entertainment and everyone has a kick-ass time..."

There is no metal festival in the fucking country that has a better, more brutal line-up than Death In The Forest. We have it all, from the Brutal Stylings of Belphegor and Immolation, to the more technical and speed orientated Vital Remains and 1349. Then you've got the greatest Headliners and supporting acts ever to fucking hit New York. Tell Me... WHY THE FUCK WOULD ANYONE DRIVE ALL THE WAY TO MASSACHUSETS OR FUCKING VIRGINIA FOR A METAL FESTIVAL? The sad answer, my evil cohorts, is that before Death In The Forest, New York didn't have Fuck-All for a major Metal event. Well kiddies, now we do, and were gonna force this one into the record books. We are gonna make the rest of the world stand up and take notice. NEHMF (New England Hardcore and Metal Fest) is held at the Palladium, that place holds only about 1300 people. Our 2nd Stage Arena holds 6600 people. 6600 FUCKING PEOPLE. Our Venue can house over 100,000 people. This is not a tiny event. This is not a fucking joke, this is the GREATEST Metal Fest to ever hit the states. We receive daily e-mails from people all over the world who are impressed by the sheer magnitude of this event. We have sent tickets to California, Florida, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Texas... all over the effing globe. ONCE AGAIN, there is not a single, solitary Metal Festival that can hold a flame to Death In The Forest. Before you waste your money on all of those other fests, buy a DITF ticket and pat yourself on the back. TJ Morris President Watchers Entertainment
jesus this dude is fucking way out there

BELPHEGOR Cancel DEATH IN THE FOREST Festival Appearance - May 20, 2006
Austrian death/black metal act BELPHEGOR have been forced to cancel their appearance at the Death In The Forest festival — scheduled to take place today (May 20) at the Avalon in New York City — due to "visa problems," according to the band's official web site. Norwegian black metallers 1349 pulled out of the one-day event yesterday for the same reason.

BELPHEGOR recently completed work on their sixth album at producer Andy Classen's Stage One studios in Germany. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Throne of Sacrilege", "Flammandus Et Contemtus", "Bluhtsturm Erotica"', "Belphegor – Hell's Ambassador".

BELPHEGOR's fifth full-length album, "The Goatreich - Fleshcult", was released in Europe in February 2005 via Napalm Records. The CD was recorded at Mastersound Studio in Fellbach, Germany and is the follow-up to 2003's "Lucifer Incestus".
