Atlantis
Yes, another project for my music theory class....

In a nutshell, I need to do a report on any songs, albums, whatever about some kind of piece of literature. Books, myths, folk-lore, etc. I just need songs about a story, the story it's based on, the artist, all that good stuff.

And don't worry. I already have the Odyssey on my list of songs. I can't forget that.

EDIT: Also, asking for help isn't cheating, is it?

EDIT: And thanks in advance.:headbang:

Jag Panzer's album about Macbeth rocks.
Vanden Plas' album about the Count of Monte Christo.
Sym X's Through the Looking Glass.
Iron Maiden did something, but I can't remember what

Your're not out of school yet? Haha, we took finals a week ago.

The Turning is about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde if i'm not mistaken, but since there is no specific mentioning of it in the song so I can only guess.

and through the looking glass like someone said earlier.

There can be only one:
Blind Guardian - Nightfall In Middle-Earth
Hehe, that's the first thing I thought of when I read the first post :D

Being the huge Atlantis fanboi that you are, how about just covering the entire V album?

That was the first thing I put on the list. :D I can't not put V on the list. (It's probably gonna take up half of the report. )

EDIT: I love using the computers in school to log on here. (I should do it more often.)

Ulver has an album named : Themes From William Blake's Heavend and Hell...
I don't know the relationship...

I haven't got the album yet but here's some info from Wikipedia:

Lyrically, the album incorporates the entire text of the William Blake's poem The Marriage of Heaven and Hell, and features guest vocals. Despite confounding and perhaps alienating many fans of the band's first three albums, the album received great acclaim from critics within both the metal and alternative music press.

As it seems, it only includes the whole text as lyrics, so would probably have no use to you. :)

Iron Maiden did Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner - a poem by an author I forgot.

Rush's 2112 was dedicated to Ayn Rand (an author) so I dunno if that helps.

Speaking of Ayn Rand, Spiral Architect has a song called Fountainhead, and I'm pretty sure it's an allusion to the book of the same name.

Though you have enough Symphony X, I believe the Accolade talks about knights of Arthur's court...

Manowar has about a million - their personal theme is Vikings and Norse mythology. For starters, they have a song called Valhalla, and The Crown and the Ring (Lament of the Kings) is not only awesome, but about a soldier who gets brought to Valhalla by the Valkyries.

And while they're not metal, there are countless Oratorios (or something like that) in classical music about stories from the bible, etc.

And yeah, shouldn't you be out of school by now? And what does music based on stories have to with music theory?

I would check out rising force, seems like they have alot of cool stuff. Like manowar, many themes of viking and norse mythology.

Plus, i fall for anything yngwie...

Cool, I've always wondered what 2112 was based on...

And Blind Guardian also has a song called Valhalla, and it has probably one of the catchiest choruses of all time.

You guys may think less of me for this, but Metallica's "Creeping Death," was based on Charleton Heston's movie "The Ten Commandments," which coincidentally talks about the plagues of Egypt.

Metallica also has Call of Cthulhu by Lovecraft. One other Lovecraft influenced song: Cradle Of Filth - Mother Of Abominations song in Nymphetamine album. Another horror art based music: Cradle Of Filth - Midian, from Clive Barker's novel "Kabal"...

Call of Ktulu is awesome.
That SUCKS you can't do that Macbeth album, it's so effin' awesome.
That Iced Earth album about Dracula/Frankie is awesome as well.

Damn, it's all awesome.

Symphony X's King Of Terrors is based on the Edgar Allen Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum" as well as Poe himself. :headbang:
