Hi!! I'm at my parents home at the moment, so, no monitors to mix. I'm mixing on a shitty 10€ headphones that are tearing in pieces :zombie:. I used my templates but i couldn't check everything as I ussually do, so there can be some problems with lowend.

As I'm not at my place I couldn't use my loved Caparison to record guitars, so I had to use my Ibanez. It doesn't suck, but it's not the same thing, and plus, It doesn't have my loved Floyd Rose :erk:

So! after all the QQing, the song:
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/425433/Dandelium - Prophecy.mp3

Now, I tell you all how did I record this:

·Drums:
Toontrack's Superior Drummer 2.0
I used the EZ Drummer last kick in the list (can't recall names now) with the S2.0 interface, as an XDrum.

-Kick and snare are heavily processed in my DAW (Sonar 7) with lots of Waves, Sonnox and TC plugins.

-The toms just have compression and some EQ

-The OH tracks had a High-Pass filter at 400hz, and a gentle boost between 800 and 1.5KHz. Nothing else

-Ambient mics were sent to the same OH bus, so same HP filtering and shit.

All the drums were sent to a master drum bus with some compression and EQ to boost the low frequencies, so it can pump a bit the master bus as we like nowadays.

·Bass:
I used this bass thru this PodFarm preset
Then I added a lot of compression and some EQ to remove rumble (350hz)
Nothing else to it... pretty simple setup.

·Guitars:
My Ibanez SA (EMG81) thru Revalver MKIII, with this setup: PIC

Revalver MkIII Module presets.

So the chain is: GUITAR > REV MKIII > WAVES C4 > EQ1 > EQ2 > MASTER
I use Andy's settings on C4 (thanks dude!!)

And credits to GuitarHack for the impulse!! (ThisOne)

·Orchestra/Synths:
I used EWQLSO Silver and Gold, because only the Silver has the piano and organ, and the strings I like are on the Gold only.

Synths were done with Spectrasonic's Atmosphere and ReFx Vanguard.

Now, time for criticism and suggestions please!!:headbang:
Best wishes.

GREAT song!

Really dig the mix, as it is drumheavy.. you could probably turn up the guitars a bit, they have a mean sound and should be heard.. loving the orchestral stuff once again Dandelium, you are a king at orchestrating those!

I'll take those caparison porn pics now btw ;)

Ok, u earned one pic for the fast feedback!

Thank you!!

ahh, that's really nice! I love the guitarsolo :D How do you get the Orchestra to sound so good? When I use symphonic orchestra it always end up sounding like .. samples :p Are you using it with Kontakt or the original Kompakt player? I think I can make it sound more human there after grouping or something.. Any tips? :p

The sound of the orchestral stuff is just plain awesome! Drums too. Guitars sound just a tiny bit boxy to my ears, tho.

hey awesome song man! i think the guitars can be a little louder and the kick a bit softer! other than that this production is great!

where can i get andy's c4 preset?

Hey thanks all for replies!!

I'm using the Kompakt stock sampler for the strings. However they are heavily processed.
Each instrument in EWQLSO has been routed to its own channel in mixer, and processed individually. Then all strings are sent to a master string buss where I compress them a bit, to get them together.

I use a lot of filters to get rid of noises and to fit every instrument well in the mix. For example, I process the contrabasses and cellos with a high pass on 100hz, and a gentle boost on 3K, to avoid them to "eat" the bass, cuz they only are another instrument in the key range. So I have the contrabass sound but without being so bassy.
And that can be applied to every instrument in EWQLSO.

As I said in another topic, I WILL do a video of all the process, from the songwriting stage, to the mix and then mastering.

Cheers!!
