Any Meshuggah fans here?

I'm gonna see them live this August right after Opeth leave the stage, but I just don't know if I'm going to enjoy their show, I've never been able to get myself into their stuff. Maybe once they take the stage me and some friends will sniff around a bit to see if we can get to meet any of the bands.
Gonna be an awesome night, though, Dark Tranquillity, Nevermore and Opeth on the same night - lots of win.

I don't love them but I have a couple of their albums (Chaosphere and Nothing) and I really respect what they do.

I prefer my music with a little more melody, but that doesn't make them any less amazing as musicians. People may not like them, but there's no way any sane person can say they're hacks.

And btw.: Meshuggah IS the most progressive band out there.

Wrong..just flat out wrong.

I'm fairly positive even the band would get quite a good laugh out of that if they heard it. The band is built on repetition. Where's the dynamics? Where's the variety of genre blending? Where's the progressive song structures? WTF you talkin bout Willis!?!

Unless by some chance you meant to say, "least" instead of "most" then don't even bother replying because I can't even begin to comprehend how you're going to try to make sense of that statement. It boggles the mind as much as this universe where up is down, and black is white where you seem to live in.

You're the one who lives in opposite world buddy.

They're about as dynamic as Paris Hiltons acting. If you consider a bunch of tuneless shouting ontop downtuned chug riffs, and a bunch of double bass genre blending then consider my mind blown. Oh, and don't forget its repetitious riff centered structure.

Whatevs.. you like em, you're a fanboy then cool, but calling them the most progressive band ever is a stretch of the imagination to say the least.

Meshuggah is awesome....BlueSky, listen to Catch 33. With Obzen, they kind of regressed to nothing but chugging riffs, but Catch 33 had some great moments that were quite different from their other stuff.

yes, they chug...albeit in weird time sigs. stfu

Nah, I'm pretty sure almost ALL their songs are in 4/4.

My favourite Meshuggah albums in order:

Chaosphere
Destroy Erase Improve (or Contradictions Collapse, even though it gets less plays from me)
ObZen
Nothing
Catch 33 (BORES me to tears almost, definitely my least favourite)

yeah yeah...we've been through this before on this board. 4/4...yes, but the rhythms can also (more sensibly) be divided into different time signatures as well.

+1

I don't have any of their albums and I haven't listened to enough of their material to make a valid opinion. I do respect them as musicians.

For all you people who complain about the 4/4 bullshit, are you not listening to what haake is doing with his feet or anything else asides the steady beat he is playing on the high-hat or ride or whatever? The polyrhythms are absolutely out of this world.
