I'm still spinning the entire disc(s) in my car right now. I generally notice it's hit or miss with these things (anyone remember the vast degrees of quality on the old Powermad discs?) but I also quite enjoy "discovering" the unsigned act with the killer track - you know, spinning the disc in the background while one is eating dinner, or surfing their favorite porn locations online or feeding the fish, then... *bam* some random track just smacks you in the head and you think "Damn, what was THAT? I need to hit the REPLAY button and get my ass in the seat!"

Hoping there's a moment or two on there. Calling the odds, I'll say it's 1:3 I find at least 3 great tacks, 1:7 I find 5-6 tracks and 1:1 I have a can of Black Cherry Vanilla coke for lunch.

Also, Curious as to what opinions are on my track off disc 2, "The Breaking Point" as well....

I'll sticky this thread as soon as we get the ball rolling on responses.
Btw, good job with the work on the disc, program and event, brother. And it's cool I got to chat, albeit quickly, with you at the table. I hope you actually had a chance to hit the bands gigs inside and weren't stuck at the table the entire time feeding the bags to the untold masses...

Nope, haven't listened to it yet....been too enthralled with the new Zero Hour to listen to much else. :)

I'll make a point to check out your song tonight though!

Stacy

Good grief dude, given just the first three discs there, I guess we can look to hear back from you around the beginning of the year! :loco:

Thanks dude! Was a pleasure finally meeting you as well. I'm usually freed up after the first band or so once all the bags have been handed out. So I was able to see plenty :headbang:

Hey Deron thanks for all the hard work on the sampler and the program, I was very impressed with the quality of everything! There are some great songs on the sampler, haven't heard a mediocre one yet!

Yeah Deron, once again, thanks for your help with getting my song on the sampler and the advertisement in the program.

I have heard the whole 3-CD set and indeed there is alot of great material on there.

I would venture to guess that my tune DANCE is the tune that most breaks the mold stylistically when compared to the rest of the songs on the sampler.

Any feedback from the forum members will be appreciated! And if you did it you can hear more in the vein at www.myspace.com/meflyingv

We're not on the sampler, but did I or any of my bandmates manage to whore a Lorna Sue CD on any of you guys at the fest? If anyone has feedback on that, it would be appreciated. If not, give us a listen here www.myspace.com/lornasue

I'll leave a little feedback of my own on some of the free music I picked up - This band called Shock Opera was pretty good. Very Dream Theater-ish:headbang:

I kind of like Alexandria. Its going to take a few listens of their songs to figure it out.

Mr. Mark Edwards. I love your friggin track. As soon as I heard the first bar, I was like 'jesus this is different, wtf is this', and then I found out it was yours :)

Scott Mosher, your song made me instantly depressed. That's a good thing. I think. Means theres some emotion in the music and voice. Man I don't even know what to compare it to. But I love the tune.

Other tracks I'm especially enjoying.

Gaia's Mainframe

Into Eternity's SEvere Emotional Distress

To-mera's Blood

Derek Sherinian's Czar of Steel

Suspyre's April in the fall

China Blue's Air to breathe

Dream evil's Blind Evil.

Dreamtone's Nemesis

Layne Loxley's Regenerator's Falling into the night

Deron, Zero Hour and Mindflow immediately leaped to 1 and 2 for the year, and maybe into my top ten all time!:OMG:

Thanks for the plug! Glad you are enjoying our track! Incidentally that is Zane Petersen of CD Inzane playing drums on that track (what a hitter!), in addition to myself on keyboards, Tony Mills (TNT) on vocals, Rev Jones of MSG on bass and Michael Riesenbeck on guitars. ; )

All the best,

Eric Ragno, China Blue

I've listened to all 3 disc and there are some great songs there. I'm gonna make a best of CDr mix in a few days of the best. I'll get back to what songs i think are the best in a few days.

Mucho gracias in advance, Stacy. I'll gladly take that and a hamburger next Tuesday...

Cool... depressed - in any sense of the word - is fine in my book. I definitely went more "aggressive" this time around (4th CD) and the new singer, Scott Oliva (from Inner Strength/Wind Wraith/Last Vision Black/Live After Death/_____ insert random band here) is a focal point of the more intense, dark and focused direction, I would postulate. Comparisson is tough, though I think it would appeal to Fates/Rush/DT/Qryche fans, I suppose.

As for ME, well, I'm currently I'm hitting disc 2. A few cool tracks... First, damn that Dreamscape tune sounds like Dream Theater! At least it's a good track. The Twisted Into Form tune is smokin' as well... reminds me of Atheist/Helstar/Cynic/Forbidden, to a degree. The first time I heard Into Eternity (disc 1) and I *hate* the death vocals, but otherwise the song and melodies are great... As expected the Derek Sherinian song smokes.

I'm also keeping an "ear" on Gaia, To-mera, Suspyre, China Blue, Dream Evil, Layne Loxley's Regenerator. More to come as I further digest this sucker... I"ll definitely have to hit every disc repeatedly and before the midnight hour.

Still spinning new Zero Hour and Vanden Plas as well, and the jury is out on the both, although "impressive" is as good a place to start as any.

This is a misprint, based on an error on our part and Metal Ages. We originally planned to use "I fought the World" but we were unable to get a mix from James Murphy in time. So we just sent in the track "Powderburn". We e-mailed the track name and it was on the .wav file that we sent. It just never made it to print. Sorry for any confusion. Of course "I fought the world" can be heard on our myspace page. www.myspace.com/halcyonway
If you are into stratospheric vocals, listen until the end for the big metal finish.
Also the song on the sampler is not mixed by James but by Jon Bodan the guitarist for Halcyon Way. So this song will sound a lot better when the album is finished first quarter next year. That being said you will notice that the add in the program is also mistaken, because we aren't on Bombworks and our record still is not finished. James is working on it now. That's showbiz.
Thanks all.

Crap you are indeed correct, I just checked my last email from you on that. Sorry about that dude. I'm usually very good about triple/quadruple checking that stuff so I guess it fell through the cracks at the last minute. My apologies.

Yeah, I was really impressed with this year's sampler as well. Lots of good stuff on there and very diverse – a nice cross-section of styles. My partner and I were really pleased to be included this year, especially given that the track is only a demo. Would love to hear people's feedback.

Thanks again, Deron!
