so I just A/B'd the G channel eq against a real one, character seems pretty good but gain seems different, you have to crank the gain on the actual ssl more than you do on actual plug in, anyone else got an ssl knockin around to compare?

Can somebody explain what this "gain" in the plugin is?
On hardware it's the mic-preamp, but what's the gain in software?

Using a compressor reduces the level of the signal you use it on(generally). With "gain" (sometimes "makeup gain") you can adjust the level after compressing.

("Real" compressors also have this "gain" controller, not only software.)

interesting enough jay and i did a split mix on an ep for a band recently. Jay mixed 3 songs on a G+ about a year ago and i did 3 more a few weeks back on my hd system with the ssl plugins. We didnt really try to match mixes but i love the way it turned out. The eqs were great for plugins, easily the best i've heard from waves, and the dynamics were very similar to the real deal. If i can find someone to host it i'll post a mix. Very good plugin for sure... I must say i wasnt feelin the e eq quite as much but i only had a few days to work with it.
