I'm not much of an Anvil fan, I must admit...
But this documentary really sparked my interest in them.
Lips seems like the most honest and down-to-earth guy in the world and there are some touching moments. But what I liked the most is their stage entrance in Japan at the end of the doc - gave me goosebumps...

Here's one for Lips, Robb and the guys! :kickass:

I have it on an avi file in my HD and I always forget to see it  I have to do it this weekend.

It is touching, but it really left me bummed out... I felt like I should quit playing music while I'm still young enough to have some dignity and make some money doing something else... it's just a bit tragic...

I think they send a totally different message...
Like, don't ever quit your dreams, just stick to your guns and enjoy your music. Their dignity is fully intact IMO, not to mention integrity. They do what they like, totally believe in it and enjoy it 101% - that's how it should be for all bands.
Many bands bigger than Anvil are (Jag Panzer, for one example) still have their day jobs cause their music can't support their families, in fact a small percentage of bands actually make living off their playing.

I never dug their music very much, but after seeing this movie my respect for them grew enormously. Anvil FTW :headbang:

This is going to be on VH1 classic tonight if anybody wants to see it. I'm going to DVR it because we are going to see Metallica. Looking forward to checking it out in the next few days.

Tonight at 10:00pm Eastern time. I'll try to watch it. I don't think I've ever heard anything by Anvil.

Basically the story of Anvil is would be akin to a story about Exciter, except I dare say Exciter would seem a bit more humble. Both were Canadian early thrash bands from Ontario who achieved a decent amount of success but never really hit it big.

This was Anvil's hit:

Hah, damn, the day I sign up is the day AFTER the movie plays on VH1. I'm sure they'll play it again, anyone know when?

Thanks!

I watched some of it. Very interesting, but I fell asleep about half way into it. :( Maybe it will be on TV again.

I never dug Anvil. I had "Metal On Metal" on vinyl in its due time and couldn't get into it. I recall the "Mad Dog" video on MTV (damn funny) but at the time the music didn't make anything for me.

When I read that they have made a movie about Anvil I was like wtf, with so many known bands why wasting celluloid on this one?...

...boy I was so fucking wrong! This has to be one of the most touching movies I have ever seen, I did cry a bit in some parts, I was really moved by Lips and Robb dedication and endurance. Chris Tsangarides must be one of the coolest people in the music world, he was through all the shit of their recording and try to keep them together. When Lips cracked up and then goes back to ask forgiveness I was totally identified with him, being there, done that to family and friends, I understood him all too very well.

Like Lemmy said at the beginning you have to be at the right place at the right time, why no one ever gave them a fair break must have been a twist of fate.

This have to be one of the most genuine metal bands ever, real down to earth musicians struggling to do what they love to do no matter what. And it's so cool to see how their fans, family, friends have remain there all these years and the dedication of the director to get this story out.

Great documentary, excellent photography, true people, true situations, true metal. Must be for both metalheads and cinema lovers. :worship:
