anyone ever been to Beijing?

Nah, but Tefling around Asia for a bit is an amazing experience, so good luck!

yea thanks man. it's teaching an IELTS class, which from what I hear, is great. plus after a while I can get trained to be an examiner, where the money is supposed to be at.

the perks are awesome. im really excited. ive never been east of romania.

did you island hop around asia after your celta? by the way my celta experience was great...nothing like the horror stories i read about.

I hated my Celta, as about 95% if people I've met in the industry did. You're lucky!

Unlike many, I never did the Celta as an avenue to a main career/job. It's always been on the side. I spent months here or there around Asia and it was great. I find it so oppressive in the longer term (number of people, size of cities etc) but in the short term it was amazing. I also often think of going back because the quality of life you can have is SO much higher than at home it's unreal. Even here in CZ I can build a house, go out every night, get most things I want/need and I earn pretty much zilch in terms of dollars, euros or pounds. In Asia it was apartments with six rooms for two guys, balconies, cool bars and loads of chicks and the salary is mere cents or pennies in "real" terms. Just enjoy it as much as you can. After a year or two it becomes time to decide whether it's a career or a stop gap, but for the first two years just live it up!

Yea well this is a career change. If it's true that people have 3 careers in their lifetime then this is the middle stop for me. I'm gonna do it until I get tired of it or I find something better. But I plan to develop and get a DELTA at some point. And of course I want to travel around for a few more years.

Do you work for the BC?

You need two years before you can do the DELTA, and my experience is that you'll know by then whether it's the life for you. I couldn't do it, and I know many who wouldn't, but if it becomes a long-term thing then the DELTA is essential to move on to better paid management/teacher training positions.

I did work for the BC, yeah, and I'm still involved with their operation of the Cambridge exams here, but I don't work for them. Great organisation to work for in the world of tefl, for sure.
