Anyone here familiar with Framus amps?

James uses them. He has a cobra half-stack, I also think I remember reading somewhere (maybe his own forum) that he's getting a dragon soon too.

A lot of the newer metal bands have used/are using them too, they have a really nice sound.

I've played on a Framus guitar... didn't know they made amps too. Anyone have a sound clip?

Actually, yeah, long time ago when I was posting on Guitar Geek, most people were talking marvels about Framus amps. They said that they sounded better than ENGL's specially for metal, very aggressive and precise, lots and lots of gain. Here are some sound samples:

SAMPLES

note: most samples are from ENGL's, but there are like 6 or 5 samples from a Framus (mostly Cobras and a couple Dragons). This page is great 'cause they do play thrash/death metal clips with the amps.

well..i guess germans would pronounce it frah-moos , with the accent on the first syllable :Smug:

Yeah that's how we pronounce it.

When I was looking for another amp for my studio, I tested everything possible. Now I use a Dual Recto and an Engl Fireball mostly.
I tried the Cobra and I was shocked how deeply it sucked. Fizzy and toneless. Very new metal strange thing. It was through a cobra cab also. Sorry to say that, but every other hi gain tube amp I tested (even the Laneys) were better.
Perhaps the tubes were bad or something.

Frams guitars by the way are lovely. They have a good Les Paul type model.

The samples on the rocksolidamp.com site leave me pretty optimistic about these things. How would you all say that they stack up against Mesa/Krank/ENGL/Peavey etc.? Basically, the big metal amps.

i like to think i'm not very partial to shitty sounding amps... and my experience was 180 degrees opposite of yours. something is wrong with this picture somewhere... perhaps, as you said, the tubes were bad.

new metal sounding?... bizarre indeed.. and haven't we hashed that one out over Rectifiers before? did you try the cobra set on "6"? My brother has a Laney tube head that my cobra just craps all over (sorry stephen!).
